this lack of sleep is really getting to me.
I literally didn't wake up for something like 11 hours (that I remember) on Monday. 1AM-12:30PM. That was a nice little heart attack to wake up to.
Pussy.
I woke up 10:00AM Friday and didn't go to sleep until 10:00PM Saturday. For a site we had to perform a storage migration on 2000+ VMs on 20 clusters where our part of the work took three hours. We sat around just waiting for applications to come back online. At least I wasn't involved with last weekend's work. My colleague worked from noon Friday until noon Monday then put in another batch of 15 hour days until Friday.
And dude, get your ass to work. On time, every time, all the time. Nothing gets someone bounced faster than showing up late. I can get away with coming in late because I've worked there for a good amount of time and I'm in the golden boy category.
STFU. You're not me. You don't know everything I fight. You have no right to say that.

Please be nice boys.

Jeeze guys be nice.

No, he is not. None of us are. But that does not change the facts about what he said in his ever so diplomatic PSX way.
No employer will care about anything like that. They will care that you were half a day late in your second week of work.
That is simply bad.

No, I understand that. Believe me, especially after being late Friday due to car issues, Monday was not me at my finest. But it happens. Any decent employer understands that. I set my alarm. I'm pretty sure it went off. There isn't much I can do beyond that. I've ordered a more powerful alarm at the recommendation of @Dominica . We'll see if that helps.

No, any decent person will understand it. Your boss may even understand it. But the employer you work for is a thing, not a person. It does NOT understand. It does NOT have compassion.

Ok, yes. I was implying my boss. Your clarification is right.

AJ, I am sure you are going to be one of their better helpdesk people, but it takes quite a few "attaboys" to make up for a "ah shit" I would come in early and stay late for the next month if possible.

I usually do come in early. I'm never late. This was a fluke event, as was my car breaking down. It just always seems to happen that they happen in close timing. Ask @Minion-Queen about the time that happened in...January or February. My alarm fell behind my bed (it was my phone) one night so I missed my alarm. The next day I slept through my alarm. It's a fluke event but every now and then it just happens that way.

Sadly, I don't live in Florida. For me, Florida is just one step above Texas. Too hot, muggy, and y'all get hurricanes. No thanks.

Wow, Just Wow....

After translating what PSX said into slightly less abrasive language, he's absolutely right. Even if your employer is saying it's fine with them that you were late again, don't think that they are going to forget it. You now have 2 strikes against you in not even 2 weeks of work. Every employer I've ever had would have probably dismissed you on the spot after showing up hours late without calling in for hours after you were supposed to be there, especially your 2nd week on the job. That's a no call - no show. If I were you, I would be kissing as$, doing exactly what I'm told, and not rocking the boat, as well as making sure you're early from now on.
-
Seriously, AJ. Play it safe, ok?
-
@Dominica , I have been showing up early. However, the person I generally report to doesn't show up til 10, so showing up early only does so much good. I get here a few minutes before my shift but there isn't much point, at this point, in showing up 30 minutes early, for example.
@Huw3481 , I am trying. It was just a bad couple of days. Not much I can do about it.
-
This is probably a bad time to point out that I went out drinking with SAM for about 12 hours, left his at 6am and still made work (albeit an hour late) but I did let them know in advance.

I hadn't slept soundly in months. My body finally burned out and shut down. It felt wonderful.

I've done that before. Missed the midnight train in Tokyo once, next one was a 5am. That was probably the worst day of my life. Great night though!
