official price of the idrac enterprise license is 400$ ++ .... -.-

This is a reason to use SuperMicro. That stuff is free.

thanks. Will continue my experiment. I guess I stuck with PERC RAID then.

Or blessed with, as is more commonly the case.

@francesco-provino do you know how to bypass the HW RAID in DELL R720?
I want to use SW raid instead with MD.

          Thanks.

Why do you want to bypass the PERC controller?

He wanted to experiment with software raid in a test lab bit everyone said no as if hes doing it in production...

PERC will cause some issues with that. Each drive will be individual RAID 0.

Some PERCs do passthrough. I've done it bit I forget which one. Just look it up.

But doing RAID 0s will still work. I wouldn't do it in production though.

Works for some things, like making an array. Doesn't work for others, like monitoring an array. Arguably, the later is more important.

@tim_g yes, it is PERC 3xx which can be set to IT mode if I read it correctly.

You looking for the unit for testing? will bump you if i find it.

You're looking for HBA mode (pass-through). The PERC H730 does it, but there was another on I used... it's just I forget which one. I want to say H700 or H710, but I'd have to wait until tomorrow sometime to check.

Maybe it was the H310... I'll check tomorrow.

H310 is not meant to be a RAID controller, it might do passthrough well.
