I would also split out the functions, one system for the AD functions, and another for the file serving.

I was wondering about that. With Windows, you wouldn't share roles on DCs. I figured it would apply to nix also.

Even moreso since there normally is no licensing complications to encourage application consolidation.

Honestly, I wouldn't use Nethserver for this, I would go straightup CentOS 7
Or Fedora 26, even more updated.
I understand that, and if I was going to be the main person using this, then I would do that. I am not though so I have to take that into consideration.

Jurassic Park Effect. Still a factor even when handing over. Your point is valid, just showing that there is value the other way as well.

This looks like a good project, defiantly keep us updated with how it all goes, I think Nethserver is brilliant, haven't tried it with that amount of users though. I don't see anything wrong with not having to use CLI all the time, and it's great that you are also thinking of other people that might need to manage the system as well.

You have a customer with 800 machines, 450 users and no one that can support a basic server?

Right Still, seems like having a one admin would be useful.

Okay after much thought and planning, I am going plan vanilla CentOS 7 for this. You guys are right.

Not Fedora? That will have a lot more recent updates and more packages.

I beg to differ, NethServer IS CentOS 7 + a framework (web interface and automations) on top.
We have already scenarios like that, I would give it a try. If you need support please just ask.@stuartjordan said in Nethserver:

Thanks man I appreciate it.
