Need a Good PCI Express RAID Card from Amazon
-
Yes, customer requirement is that they need to be able to order from Amazon and it needs to be in stock to place the order today. Card will be used in a SuperMicro server that will be running Hyper-V 2012 R2 with 18 WD Gold drives in it (all the other hardware already exists, only the RAID card is still needed.) Card will be used for RAID 6 and needs to support hot spare functionality (final configuration will be RAID 6 17 + 1 HS.)
Card must also support large drives 6TB+. They had a card ready that was 2TB limited.
Looking hopefully for a good Adaptec or LSI card. Anyone know of a good option? Tagging @Mike-Davis as he was the one receiving the order request.

Realistically I'd like to see 2GB of RAM cache on whatever card is chosen. But 1GB will suffice.

I was also wondering for hyper V, does anyone still do RAID 1 for the OS and then RAID 6 for the data?
The three I'm running, I have a single RAID 6 instance for everything.
(Servers are using SSDs) -

Amazon really does not carry RAID cards. It's not an appropriate place to be shopping for enterprise gear. There is one single LSI controller on Amazon and it is made and sold by SuperMicro, so not really on Amazon.

I thought I found one, and then found it's so old his has the 2TB per drive limit....

Most anything sold on Amazon will be like that. It's not an enterprise IT shop so it's mostly places dumping old stock for home users.

So far this is the best option, by far, that I have found:

I think I have to change the customers requirement of "from Amazon" to "someplace that has overnight shipping".

This is why I don't like working for outside customers. WTF?! sighhhh

LOL, that's TOTALLY different since Amazon doesn't offer that on this kind of gear. They need to call Softmart or CDW. Softmart can normally have gear like this for us same day if they are able to drive to the local Ingram Micro location and next day if not. Just called Shannon at Softmart and get what they need ordered for them.

Yeah, this was a "proposed solution" instead of "stated goal". Their solution that they just made up out of nowhere totally compromised their actual goal of getting it quickly. If I knew that I needed gear fast, I can literally get an Adaptec card up the street in an hour walking there on foot if I need to!

New Egg might have something.
