Network-wide, hardware ad blocking using Raspberry Pi

So basically it's just another web proxy. Why would this be run on a Raspberry Pi instead of in a VM? And while it's a neat idea and centralizing it is not bad, doing ad blocking on clients keeps it from entering the network too by keeping the files from being requested.

Pretty much any project, especially on in-line on your network, on Raspberry Pi is just silly. It's not enterprise grade hardware, and it's not virtualized. You don't get the speed, reliability or low cost that you should have. It's hard to maintain, pointlessly complex and expensive.

Yes, it supports most Debian-based distros, so yeah a VM with that and give its IP as DNS would work too
-
While home users would never look at this, it definitely seems more a home user solution.

Raspberry Pi Would not make a good proxy server even for home. Proxy servers need a heck of a lot of horsepower, raspberry Pi.
The Raspberry Pi and arduino are best used in automation, scripting, motor/system controls and IoT/Home automation. They were never designed to be servers like that.

Yeah, it's a solution that only works in a market that wouldn't care about it. And it is silly there, too.

As long as it doesn't have an ARM dependency.
