Profile of an Unethical MSP

We all know that they are out there, MSPs that are just out to screw over customers without having competent IT staff and just hope that the customers don't know any better. Sometimes, like with RMD Technologies in the UK, they actually happily announce it. This thread on SW starts off fine but ends up with the OP announcing that he is basically booby trapping (or willing to booby trap) his customers so that he can make a quick buck and the booby trap only springs if they fire him (or he takes vacation, is out sick, gets hit by a bus, takes another job, retires, gets promoted, etc.) It sounds like he's useless and has no intention to ever get promoted and his company doesn't give holidays so he is out to get everyone. Presumably he's unemployable in normal IT or he'd be doing that.
The entire thread has this theme of "all SMBs in his market are total crap and don't get up to the home line". Well we find out why - he's firm is a total joke and no one taking IT seriously could consider doing business with him with the skill set and attitude that they RMD Tech has. They are self filtering their customers by being a bad provider. It would be like a Yamaha offroad dealership telling people that "no one is buying cars anymore, just four wheelers because that's all we see - because duh, thats all you are able to see by design!
Much of the thread was fine, but by the end, it's really bad.
This isn't just screwing customers who don't know better (or maybe we can excuse it that any customer willing to work with this company is a fool unto themselves if they aren't checking up on how this stuff is working) but it makes all of IT look bad. Crap like this drives down wages, makes IT look like we don't understand business and convolutes the entire profession.

Ugh had a consult today with a potential client who just had an MSP like this. Now they are so scared of dealing with anyone in IT. Spent 45 minutes explaining why we will provide them with access to everything in their environment (of course we have to get access first), and why we are happy to show them what we are doing. They didn't believe me at first.

What's amazing is that so many of these MSPs stick around doing the same thing often for years and years. No one ever seems to fire them no matter how obvious the problem is.

I can't find RMDtech anywhere online.

Might be a fake name that he uses. Maybe RMD are his initials.

The thread started off well anyway, cant understand why people are still seeing no need to Virtualize....it's 2016, there are free hypervisors to choose from, this shouldn't really be asked anymore.

It really shows the great length of "not wanting to learn" that so many IT people are willing to go to. Virtualization has been standard in the enterprise space for 52 years (1964 it began in production on IBM systems) and in the SMB space it's been common since 2003 and basically ubiquitous since 2005 and unacceptable to not have everywhere (on new deployments) somewhere around 2006 - 2008. By 2005, anyone in even SMB IT not being aware of it meant that they had no place in any kind of technical oversight or decision making role.
How anyone felt that this guy was employable is beyond me. How do we educate customers to look for good vendors?
