Yep!
I really want to know where all of these people are getting this idea to run this from? And what about it's terrible "feature" set is drawing them in?
I don't know for sure but I sure have seen more UNraid post in the last month compared to ever before.
Is it a default or near the top of some list in some distro these days? or on some NAS?
It's being used by SpiceHeads, only place I've ever seen someone use it.
What other groups (other than ML) do you participate in that exposes you to SMB persons who might do this?
Reddit perhaps? There are IT people on Reddit?

I have an account on Reddit and have watched a few things there. I just don't have the time to participate in it. I can barely keep up with ML, and I've been trying to find time with SW.

Just save yourself the effort. The only time I interact on SW at all anymore is when someone actually posts a link on ML. I admit to taking an unhealthy amount of joy at reading the threads posted in this particular thread. "I can't even"

Yeah, but that's not for IT people. That begs the question, why are any IT people seeing stuff like this?

Because they think it is. I would wager most people on SW think that is IT related.

@scottalanmiller People push unRaid on Reddit like mad. It is comical the advice these folks give.

unRaid: we're trying to make RAID4 cool again.
-
@travisdh1 I go there often to read the "advice" they give. It makes for a good laugh and is an excellent way to piss off time. Don't forget Proxmox. They push it like crazy too.

So you'd give it a higher entertainment value the SW?
-
@travisdh1 Ooooh. Why such a tough question on a Monday???

Ah, is maybe that where this is coming from?
Rediit... it's unIT
-
@brandon220 And FreeNAS as well.
reddit is crap through and through. Much worse than SW.
Not just r/sysadmin, but the entire site. -
@momurda Yes, I forgot about FreeNAS. I see that a lot too. Especially in /r/homelab.

That's been an ongoing thing, though. It's a consistent bad bit of advice.

What your opinion on OpenMediaVault? The WebUI is pretty nice.

Looks like just another one of these endless "Web GUI for basic UNIX functions" products. A quick look at it, I don't see that it does anything special. The first question is... what's the itch looking to be scratched? From just looking at it, I don't see what would make it interesting.

Besides FreeNAS, NAS4Free, and so on, what else would you considered “Web GUI for basic Unix functions”?
