Surface Pro 4 - Login Issue
-
Is this on first login? Is it creating his local profile?
-
We have never used one with bitlocker on it so not sure if that might be the issue?

@scottalanmiller Yes, New. About 1 week old.
Imaged, but we have a bunch of them already deployed with the same image in Germany. There are our first in the states.
So images but tested. Any chance that the US build is not identical and needs a different driver?

Should not be since it asked for the regular password. It couldn't do that unless Bitlocker was working.
-
@Kelly No, the user has logged in before. No roaming profiles.

Oh, this isn't the first login, it stopped working after the first login?
-
@scottalanmiller Correct.
-
have you done a 'reset' From what I remember the Surface doesn't 'shutdown'. you don't want to do a hard reset,.. just a nominal reset.
-
And the SP4 has all the patches and firmware updates installed? They're a bit broken out of the box.

Highly Unlikely. We deploy 2 others at the same time that are fine.
-
@Kelly Correct, we do all available updates before deploying.

-
Crashing right after login is usually a profile or GP issue. Have you tried nuking his local profile, or checking your RSOP on the machine?

@scottalanmiller The surface is 2 hours away

At least it isn't in Germany.

@Kelly How? I have no connection to the device, until the user connects to the VPN, and the VPN can not be used, because the user can't login....

Good reason to push for pre-login VPNs. I prefer them nearly always. ZeroTier, Pertino, OpenVPN... You don't want VPNs tied to AD or you lack LAN-like functionality.

Well, you have a few options then. Go there, get the SP to you, or replace it with a known good one.

I lost power during the initial setup of an SP4. Had a rouge login, glad I had to reload enterprise on it anyways...

All the ones that I need in front of me, I just have them mail it to me. If it's an emergency, they can overnight it. Not explaining stuff over the phone to a non-technical person. If you try to describe to a sales person how to image a computer, forget it. lol
