Sorting out the IT Vendor threads
-
I don't know that anyone can help me unravel this, but I'm trying to get a handle on our IT vendors and getting more than a bit confuzzled.
Context: we are in the process of rebranding our company, current email addresses are [email protected], and we want to change them to [email protected]. We have a new website set up on newdomain.com.au, and the old website domain is redirected to that, so it looks really funny to have different domains for emails and websites. We have our own server. However, current email is hosted by company A, and pulled down with a POP collector to our Exchange where it acts as though it were being delivered to our server.
Old domain is registered with company A.New domain is registered with company B.
New domain's web hosting is with company C.
Our local Exchange is managed by company D.Company D has made changes within Exchange to provide these new addresses for all users.
I have made changes in Company B's & C's dashboards to make the mail records go to the right place (I am not at all knowledgeable in this area so that is probably not the right way to refer to them).Still no joy according to company D. Not sure what else to check on? I'm really wishing that we were a bit smarter and just did all this stuff through one or at the most two vendors rather than trying to chase them through. Feels like I'm trying to find the ends of some of the cables in our switch....
TL;DR: I'm confused because we have too many different tech vendors and I just want to set up email addresses with the new domain name.
Thanks!

@lillucia Well, you have options. Best i've found is to go into your current providers admin panel(s) and setup forwarding addresses. so forward all of the email from the "old" addresses to your new ones. That way your "old" mail comes to new address, you reply from your new address, and folks will recognize the change. You could also put a little tag in your email saying. "please change my address" etc.

@Hubtech Thanks, but wouldn't I need to have the new addresses set up first? I know I can get forwarding set up reasonably easily, but I'm having trouble getting the email addresses happening in the first place.
Or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing -
Yes, you will need the new addresses before you can forward to them.

Or maybe I just don't know what I'm doingCorrect. You've got to have the new addresses setup before we can get the mail flowing properly.

Just to update (once you have forgotten this one), I found out what the problem was... in the rush to get our new website online, the dev had trouble with the hosting we had purchased so just put it on his own server instead... and remembered to tell me three days ago. All working now and happy
