Block XP from the internet

Other great ideas out there, however the client is looking for cheap. So either i disable the PC from accessing the internet or she brings in a monitor and uses the PC off the network. Sometimes my extremely small business stress me out!

It sounds like they don't want to buy Windows 7 for that computer they don't want to replace the computer, in either case no money spent on acquiring stuff.

duh.. he could install Virtualbox on Linux (it is a type 2 hypervisor still, right?) then he could put that linux box online, RDP or VNC into it.

duh.. he could install Virtualbox on Linux (it is a type 2 hypervisor still, right?) then he could put that linux box online, RDP or VNC into it.
Yes, Linux (I put that a few posts up too
VirtualBox will always be Type 2, there are more than enough Type 1s, but VB is the leading Type 2.And the RDP is directly to VirtualBox, not to Linux, so no need to access Linux at all once it is set up. Very sweet setup.

Whatever you do, don't open up RDP from the Internet at large to the XP box. As future vulnerabilities get patched on Vista and newer, they won't be on XP, leaving that system prone to attack.

Definitely. RDP really needs to be well patched.

RDP does have its own security and for the most part is fine to use, especially for SMBs. It's not that the connection is not secure but that the identity of the RD Session Host server is not verified in the base protocol. And extra security is not that hard to do:

I appreciate all the information folks. I knew there was many virtual ways to do this, including moving the program and data to the W7 PC using XP Mode.
However when I say cheap, they have budgeted less than $60 which was why I was looking to block access to the internet from the XP box. They have already been using RDP to access the program on the XP PC via the local network for the last 2 years.
