Remote Software Installation at Ubuntu 14.04
-
May I ask why you need those specific versions of the software? Why will the latest not work? Also, I've only got limited exposure to Kaseya, and only from the Windows side, but do you have a Kaseya license for this? Or do you just need a general VNC agent? Would RealVNC or TightVNC work instead? Also, what do you mean by "snapshot of every software"? That makes no sense.
-
So a few issues that might have answers but must be asked:
- Why are you two versions (and a week away from three versions) old on Ubuntu? Keep that updated, it's free!!
- Why are you trying to install specific versions of software? The point of Ubuntu is that they manage all of this software for you to avoid these problems. Use the versions that work with your system.
- Why install software using anything but apt-get? This sounds like Windows mindset of complexity trying to be applied to the simplicity that Linux can be.
-
I can't speak for his specific situation, but I know I can't run Java v8 because it's not compatible with my software package.
-
Is Java 8 shipping with an 18 month old Ubuntu? Not likely.
-
I was only talking in generalities, not about his specific situation.
-
Looks like even on the current version that Java 7 is current on Ubuntu...
-
Pretty sure it doesn't use true Java at all. OpenJava/OpenJDK/OpenJRE are what's used in Ubuntu

Those are true Java, just not Oracle Java.

We've already established your manager is a moron and deliberately tries to sabotage your work. Have you asked him for a reason for these versions when they are all old?
-
@thanksajdotcom Yes I have asked him but he did not say any reason for this version but he needs to install the specific version he have specified in his list

Ask him if he's aware there are newer versions of some of those pieces of software and why he needs old software installed. You need to not give up asking until you have a legitimate reason.

What does taking a snapshot of the software mean to your manager? That's not a normal term. It doesn't mean anything specific in this instance.

Yup, I asked about this before, because his manager seems to love to make up terms.

In some ways that makes it impossible to do what he wants. In other ways, you can do anything and say you did what he wants.

Yeah, because what he says means nothing, you could technically do anything and say you thought it applied.
