Looking at Ideas for a Grassless Backyard

Interesting setup. It's pretty but I find it odd to have grass on your table while you are eating. I feel like this would increase the odds of bugs in your food.

That's exactly what I thought my wife would say if she saw that. That is her biggest complaint about eating outside. It was beautiful last weekend in St. Louis. Virtually no humidity (rare for the summer), relatively cool temps (low 90s as a high), and we just got a nice umbrella for our deck but could we eat outside and use...nooooo....might get bugs in our food. Which then had me asking why did we spend the money on the umbrella.

Lol now don't get me wrong. It's not the end of the world for me but I just feel like your increasing your odds by doing this which to me feels a bit illogical. But then again I suppose you increase your odds to begin with just by eating outside. I love eating outside and am actually a fairly outdoorsy person (hunt, camp, etc.) so that was never an issue for me. I guess the grass on the table is really just an aesthetic I don't enjoy as much.

I'd feel like I want to reach out into the middle of the table and pick a tomato or something. Probably wouldn't be difficult to grow some mint or spearmint plants in the middle of the table. Keeps mosquitoes away and is good to chew on after a meal.

@scottalanmiller I see an awful lot of grass in that yard.

yeah, but you could easily skip the grass.

@scottalanmiller Why not just pave the entire backyard and put in a basketball hoop without a net?

@DustinB3403 I've thought about gravelling the whole thing. Paving doesn't work, we have so much heave.
