VPN Solutions for Deskphone with internal PBX
-
I am looking to see what solutions I can come up with for VPN to an external location from an internal PBX. the main problem I am running into is that I am looking to do this for a physical deskphone.
I know there are hardware VPN's available, but this solution will only be temporary and I would like to not have to fork over the expense for a one-time-use device like that. What other solutions might be available?

OpenVPN can do this. I know Yealink phones have a built in OpenVPN client. Not sure about the brand you are using though.

Good PBXs and deskphones have VPN built in. When selecting the phones, be sure to get ones with the VPN that you need. Otherwise it is effectively impossible. It has to be the phone itself that does it.

@scottalanmiller I thought you said that the use of VPN for phones was really not needed?
Yes I understand the OP asked specifically about adding VPN, but what about seeing if a non VPN solution (opened ports on the firewall to the PBX, locked down for that extension) might be a better/easier solution?

@coliver We're using Yealink phones. I'll take a look into it. Thanks!
