Book smarts can be helpful... But nothing beats honest-to-God real world experience... and that goes for pretty much anything, I think.

I've always had good experiences with Delta.

I've had them just leave me while I stood at the gate. Pretty sure that they overbooked and closed the gate so that I wouldn't make the plane. But I was on time, connecting from another flight and they just didn't let me board (and lots of other people.)

Southwest has called me on my cell phone when I was transferring and the gates were a mile away from each other, maybe two. They knew I had landed and that my SW flight landing was delayed by traffic, and they were asking me to 'please hurry up!' I made it.
