Video Deal of the Week: Mastering Cassandra for Architects
http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920024811.do?code=VDWK
*This in-depth video training session introduces you to the Cassandra NoSQL database, from drivers to deployment. Through a series of group exercises, you’ll discover several new data modeling patterns in Cassandra that depart from the relational tradition in important ways. Learn how Cassandra delivers on its promise of horizontal scalability and fault tolerance, and how its log-structured storage subsystem helps it achieve impressive write and read performance. You’ll also look at some common administrative scenarios such as adding and removing nodes.
To put Cassandra in context, Matthew McCullough and Tim Berglund present a brief survey of other players in the NoSQL space, including MongoDB, Neo4J, and Redis. You’ll learn how Cassandra differs from the relational tradition, including its different approach to transactionality and how it impacts system design. If you want to explore Cassandra, or are considering adopting it in the near future, this video is for you.*

Deal of the Day: Next Generation Knowledge Machines, Design and Architecture
*This book delivers the scientific and mathematical basis to treat and process knowledge as a quantifiable and dimensioned entity. It provides the units and measures for the value of information contained in a "body of knowledge" that can be measured, processed, enhanced, communicated and preserved. It provides a basis to evaluate the quantity of knowledge acquired by students at various levels and in different universities. The effect of time on the dynamics and flow of knowledge is tied to Internet knowledge banks and provides the basis for designing and building the next generation of novel machine to appear in society.
This book ties the basic needs of all human beings to the modern machines that resolve such need based on Internet knowledge banks (KBs) distributed throughout nations and societies. The features of the Intelligent Internet are fully exploited to make a new generation of students and knowledge workers use the knowledge resources elegantly and optimally. It deals with topics and insight into the design and architecture of next-generation computing systems that deal with human and social problems. Processor and Internet technologies that have already revolutionized human lives form the subject matter and the focal point of this book. Information and knowledge on the Internet delivered by next-generation mobile networks form the technical core presented. Human thought processes and adjustments follow the solutions offered by machines.
Extends the established practices and designs documented in computer systems to encompass the evolving knowledge processing field
Provides an academic and industrial viewpoint of the concurrent dynamic changes in computer and communication industries
Presents information for all perspectives, from managers, scientists and researchers

Cookbooks are not really good for learning. You'll want a Step by Step or the cert guide most likely.

Yes, you can get all of this via subscription. I prefer to buy them and own them indefinitely, at least for now.

@scottalanmiller Certainly different in electronic form versus paper. Convenience factor of digital is very cool, but still got the hard copy need in my bones. Won't make me go through the sadness having to purge antiquated books (WinNT anyone?). Like ePub's ability to change text characteristics. Had to use a hard copy book for a class last year which has the most visually aggravating typeface & size I've ever had to endure. Classmates conceded it was bad, as well.
