I'm making about 42K for helpdesk position. My duties include all helpdesk (we are small size business of 50-100 users), break-fix, and deploy new computer or software update.

It's pretty laid back when you are caught up with everything... but sometime it can required whole weekend to get things done. Some day I just sit at my desk with headphone on.... and watch twitch all day 😄 . Some day I didn't even get to see my beloved desk at all.. and on my knees all day :'(.

Still... not bad for someone without high level certs (CCNA, MS, redhat, etc) and no degree.

I'm looking for something else mostly because of the lack of money.

Don't stress over certs or degree. All are useless and quickly obsolete, perhaps only Redhat has a value.

More IT people need to do this. Complacence with low pay leads to lower industrial pay.

Not even that one. Six months working in Linux you earn so much more than that cert gets you. Only job that I know that really cares about that cert only pays $35K. I've never run into Linux work higher pay than that that was really concerned with the cert.

In your case I guess experience top all certs.

For people who just started certs is for stepping stone for an interview. I'm learning a lot with Win2012R2 servers and such.

I had to get through that barrier too 😉 Although I did list certs back then, but I know for a fact none of them got me my jobs since I know (and still know) the guy that hired me at my first "real" job after I had certs and he never asked about them and every job since then was unrelated to my certs and/or they were not listed.

I am not close either. But i also dont work for Amazon or Microsoft, the two largest IT employers in WA, and who give money away like it was going out of style.

Maybe you should then! 🙂 Giving away money sounds awesome.

No degree here. I think at this point, there isn't much an incentive for me to get one.
