HPE Acquires Nimble

Not sure how I feel about this. HPE has made good storage products... I just hope they don't mess up the Nimbles!
Maybe they will use the Nimble to replace the DotHill lineup
I wonder how Nimble will fit into the existing portfolio.

Not familiar with the DotHill stuff... but I know Nimble has become yet another storage vendor swallowed by HPE. LeftHand was the other one that I know of.

I really don't know anything about this space - but does this allow them to play against Dell any better with all of their acquisitions?

Not sure, HPE has had head to head gear with Nimble already in 3PAR.

The majority of what you see on SW is DotHill gear rebranded by HPE. It's sub-business class gear. Like the P2000.

That was the other one...3PAR. Didn't HPE buy them out?

Long ago, so long that people just think of 3PAR as an HPE original product.

This will really lower competition in the SAN space. Only a few viable vendors left. Nimble was one of the few major players.

Yeah. This is one of the reasons I am concerned. Admittedly, the LeftHand setup I worked with wasn't terrible. But it wasn't stellar either.

I disagree. What about Tintri, Kaminario, or Tegile? There are still plenty of vendors out there in Nimble's competitive tier. I mean they don't compare to HDS or IBM but again, Nimble is a completely different use case.
Honestly I think it would have made more sense for HPE to acquire Tintri for their portfolio at a reasonable price. Nimble is awesome for its own use case, but the acquisition seemed to be just one of appeasement to shareholders.
Unless they are shifting gears and trying to get more competitive in small-medium markets as an all around vendor (aside from adding Nimble, thinking of them purchasing Aruba a couple years ago as well).
