ET on the Atari 2600

I am sure many of you have heard they finally verified the infamous Atari ET landfill story and that a short film will be on XBOX Video soon..

I for one actually liked the game once I figured it out. I play it on an emulator once and a while. I've even discovered the Easter Egg where Indiana Jones will appear. I do feel for the programmer on this game though. He only had 6 weeks. 6 weeks to make a game based upon the most popular movie ever at the time.

We were talking about this at the office recently. Such a weird story.

Really? I've never seen it before, but it looks terrible:
Youtube VideoAlso, amazing to think that the game orginally retailed at $50. That's over $120 in today's prices. My lad just can't believe how rubbish games were when I was a kid. Or that I'd have to save up my pocket money for weeks and weeks and weeks to buy them.

@Carnival-Boy no kidding. Games were so awful before 1984.

For sure it wasn't a great game and earns its "worst game" label with some merit. Basically, you had to move ET around and watch the symbols at the top of the page. If it was a question mark, you press the button to raise your ET Neck and it will light up where a piece of the "phone" is. You need to collect 3 pieces of the phone. Then look for the symbol to "call home" to start a 60 second countdown. Then head to the woods and look for the "landing" symbol and wait there for the ship in hopes the doctor will not take you away. Oh yeah, you have to battle an FBI agent...if he "touches" you, you lose a piece of your phone and need to look for it again,. If the doctor grabs you, he takes you to a screen that has "Washington" and oddly enough, Elliot's house. You can elect Reese's Pieces for either points at the end of the game (which you have to call Elliot to come get) or use them as energy. Other symbols are arrows which can transport you to another screen or "Send back to Washington" to send doctor or FBI agent back.

Just fitting that such a bad game came from such a bad movie. Man I hate that movie.

Here's a walkthrough of the game, even showing the easter eggs of the "Yar" and Indiana Jones:
