A friend posted a picture of Ohio from space (hey, it's space, makes everything better). The arrow is pointing to the nearest town (it doesn't deserve tacking large in front of that, no.) Right on the edge of the "dark zone".

I'll post a picture of the 2003 blackout if I can find it. My little town was one of the only ones in the state to have power. It was kind of amazing when seen from space.

I was at my dad's house for that. Didn't lose power in Peoria but my house in Geneseo was out for a few days.

@travisdh1 It's so easy to see Cleveland, Akron, Canton in a row there with the lights.

Didn't we have another large one around 2009 sometime? Not quite as large an area as 2003.

NTGland can be seen on there. South of Rochester. It's amazing how easy every city can be identified from a night time light map in the eastern Great Lakes region.

Not sure, I was living in NYC in most of 2009 and Dallas at the end of it.

So many places that I have lived and worked are in that photo. My family is from Canton, I grew up near Buffalo, moved to Flint as a teenager, to Rochester in my 20s, Ithaca soon thereafter, then Pittsburgh, then some stuff off of the photo, then to Geneseo...

Yep. I live in the closest small light source north. Got 10M/1M at home, which still drives me nuts. The One Community fiber loop is on the poles in my front yard. Yet the best internet connection available in the area is 50M/5M.

I get that and it stinks. Verizon ran Fios Fiber through my neighborhood (literally the poles in my backyard) to interconnect 2 parts of the local town. But because my neighborrhood wasn't technically part of the town no franchise agreement and therefore stuck with cable and their crappy service and lines. Glad i moved

                              Haha that's a cool idea.
Here's my state. And no it's not during a blackout, we're just one giant dark zone 😉

We should keep this up. Post your state's night picture and others can try to guess the state.
