Chopping off their own feet....

@RAM.
I never doubted you, buddy.

SW is still valuable and I dont see myself going away from it completely.
My only complaint about Mangolassi is the lack of questions, which of course stems from a lack of users.

At least one of the SPs is watching this thread and reporting back to the OGs
They all read this sight. They officially are very aware of the activity here. We link to SW a bit too although linking to here is not allowed.

that's okay. seems to be the culture in forums. Get to the top (or close) of the mountain, get big britches, start upsetting the very folks that carried you to the top...branch off, small new forum with a high density of originals, tech talent, etc. Heck, this is going on in one of my automotive forums as we speak! it's funny the similarities, just the parts/pieces/lingo are different.
Agreed. Which begs the question, how do we guardrail ML from doing the same?

Well, we are starting this forum off intentionally avoiding such behavior. I'm not sure who the mods are here. maybe each sub forum should have its own community appointed mods? not that there is really a whole lot of need for moderation right now. but as it grows, will be needed. ML seems to have quite the open door policy which is cool.

Yes. That is the struggle now. ML is strong in experts. SW is strong in newbies. They have a funnel to get those people in (the app does that) which is ingenious.
Word of mouth is critical right now.

There are only 2 mods here: @steve and myself. We want to keep it fun and beneficial to the IT Pro's. Do we hope to get Vendors in here? YES and I know we have a few now such as Webroot, Unitrends, Server Monkey and Xbyte to name a few. Will we have paid advertising at some point ? Yes! But the community as it grows will be more and more for the IT pros.
@IRJ If you have questions ask them!! We need those questions. NTG has been great in helping get started and we want to continue the upward trend.
I spoke with @Minion-Queen today regarding the generating of more questions and her team will be helping out more and more with that. I am hearing about the NTG lab and the interns that will be working in it all summer. Since they are all newbies I am sure they will be bringing you all lots of questions to answer.

I will begin to start asking my questions here Joel, the futile nature of quick "you're wrong" and immediate trolling on the other side is getting annoying no matter the severity of the question. Over here though, I feel we've got a crack pot team of serious IT people.
Vendors can still send me bacon if they want :-P, and with that no more spicy stuff, we get Mango Lassi for vendor contests :-P. Mango popcorn anyone?

There are a lot of topics that don't go well over there. One is anything like monitoring or tickets. If you don't use SW, no one wants to hear about it or help you. One of the problems with having the site dedicated to supporting a single product and vendor.

Well its an unwritten bias based on ignorance. SW is in my opinion a fantastic product, but that's only because I have no experience with other products, and that's generally the formation of fanboys. "I hate Linux because it sucks and Windows is better", not founded upon fact or logic, only based on ignorance and arrogance. From my understanding TrackIT is great, but yet again, no experience.
Furthermore if we start our IT endeavors using product A, and we are familiar with product A, so we don't want to branch out from product A EVEN IF we have stats, facts, and free trials for product B.... we don't know it and we fear it.
Example... I thought Linux was a joke until about 4 years ago when I installed it on a laptop because I royaly ruined a the OS, didn't have any restore media, and didn't want to buy any new boot media. Downloaded Ubuntu as a joke and realized its pretty nifty, since then I'm still stuck in my windows ways but... when I'm not working on my gaming rig... everything else... Linux in some way...

As to the SW/Mango thing, I'm personally just staying above all the shenanigans. SW is a lot more busy than Mango right now, so I tend to post more there than here. I do try to browse when I have time and contribute when I can. It is just so much more volume there right now and I'm sure Mango will get busier and busier as time moves forward.

I have personal grievances with them sadly at this point :-/, I try not to hold grudges but... some need to exist for us to move forward.

Not nearly the volume of three months ago though. It is visibly quiet. And the quality of the conversations have changed a lot. Much more newbie focused.

How is your Linux-fu? That's the hot ticket these days.

hey now, being outside of the in group sometimes has its advantages. Sometimes the less you know, the better off you are

since i am involved or at least try to be involved on both sites I want offer up my opinion for what its worth. I joined the SW community when i started my current job, why because we used the software. As i become more involved in the community I started seeing more and more public power struggles.I myself posted in the rant thread a few times about the mods not doing their jobs and letting blatant things fly when those things were not allowed prior to a certain CM's departure. @Bill-Kindle sent me a link to this site after we had a public disagreement (but in the private conversation things were hashed out) I still post on both sites and attempt to help out where I can. ML seems to be more IT Pro based and not for the basic user (which is good). Now still haven't reached the SP level on SW yet and don't really care to, I'm not in it for the points, I'm there to provide help where possible just like here. While I post more there, i am starting to here since most of the people i talk to are now using this instead.
