I mostly use Facebook to keep in contact with Family and Friends who don't live close. Although lately I have been on it less and less with all the political BS from both sides of the aisle. I closed my other accounts.

Sorry. Thought I posted it in the right spot but with the week I'm having should've known something would have been jacked up.

RE: ZeroTier Question
HOLY HELL! That was a Shit ton of responses.
Setting the ZT IP addresses of my two on-site DCs in the V-NIC on the client works. Should this be a short term fix only?
Reading through the last few posts my eyes were going wacko!

When people ask you what you do...
I was at a function yesterday with my family and a few of the parents were asking what we all did. I simply said that I am an IT Guy and I got the impression that it wasn't impressive. Not that I am looking for some qualification of what I do the other parents were lawyers and doctors and other types but it was a weird change in conversation after that.
By certifications I am MCSE in 2003 & 2008 and Messaging in 2013, I just didn't think that saying I was a Systems Engineer is a title I needed to through out there. So How do you explain your job title/role?

RE: ZeroTier Question
FYI - Not like you didn't know this but THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!
Thanks for all the help. If this works I won't have to listen to professors complaining about not being able to access files from China.

RE: When people ask you what you do...
I can't describe how it changed. It just changed. Almost as if because I said "IT Guy" it was as if I had said I am entry level tech support. Maybe I'll go the route of Jack and just say I am in IT or IRJ and not say anything about my actual job.
I'll tell them all I am professional fisherman

Installing the agent
Not a linux guy by default. Which one do I use for Debian? How about Mac?

RE: ZeroTier Question
Got it working!
Had to make an A record entry in DNS.
Not pretty but it works.

al quick....?
Sure, I charge $50 an hour.
That's the only way to make it stop.
I was doing freelance work for a while and I was charging $55/hour. I had a friend ask if he could get the buddy price. I said that was the buddy price, the EVERYBODY price.

And on Windows 2008 R2 using the SuperDOS script:
PowerShell doesn't have Invoke-Webrequest? That's a really old cmdlet. I noticed the Debian system having issues is not patched, is this Windows maybe not patched either? We can always get the script another way, but not having PowerShell makes it a little harder.
Had to restore the debian system from backup. I'll patch it before I try installing the SS agent again.
Just now?
Yes.
That's not good. Those errors don't appear to be from the install, though, they appear to be from existing packages that can't update.
Yea, that thing is FUBAR'd! Guess I have something else to work on tomorrow
So it definitely has problems even on the restore without any SS on there? Not that I'm happy about that, but sure didn't want to be the cause of any problems.
Correct. Seems there are some other things going sideways on that box. Good thing it is only a Proxy server. I'll spin up a new VM for it and move the limited data over tomorrow.

I suppose my other option is to do mapped drives via ZT IP address and remove the static DNS.
And hosts files work great, too.
So I am getting a few users (2 to be exact) who are still experiencing issues. I made the A record for the exchange server, and verified that it indeed has ZT on it.
As I have never messed with Host file records, how does one put a pointer in there?
<A Record name> <ZT IP ADDRESS>
?
Do you have time to trouble shoot this today? I'm really curious to find out what is giving you the DNS replies you are getting.
I have held off on making the hosts file change. As it was my error, I forgot to save the change to his ZT nic

I often tell people I'm an unemployed college drop out. My wife hates that.
At my wife's Christmas party a few years back I was tired of telling people I was in IT and actually told someone I clicked next. Mind you it was later in the evening after a few whiskey ginger ales but I thought it was funny anyway. Wife was also not happy

Windows 10 migration
Due to a domain/DNS issue I have to create an entirely new domain (I'd rather not go into it). I have the new domain up and running, at least as far as AD is concerned. However, I copied a profile off the old domain, removed the machine from the old domain, rejoined to the new domain, logged in as the user and now that user (with admin rights) cannot do anything on the machine. No left click, right click, no keyboard shortcuts...NADDA!
Any ideas?
I can log in as local admin, domain admin, etc with no issues.

Couldn't agree more!
All of the places you guys have shown are B E A utiful and I'd love to go to any of those places. However, I was getting the boat cleaned up and ready yesterday and just can't wait until I can be on the water. This is so relaxing. You know what they say "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work".

Yes. Contrary to what some say, Print is not dead
