      US prepares for intense storm

Millions will be affected by a major storm about to hit central USA. It threatens blizzards, high winds, severe thunderstorms, and a risk of wildfires

      I am prepared!

Great, the day I need to go grocery shopping. No bread for me tonight.

Always wondered why people buy bread before a storm, why not canned goods that'll be good in a week even without power?

Usually when a folder is titled utilities you don't expect...racy photos.

TLDR: doing my job, assaulted by skimpy photos

@LilAng, I've been doing this long enough that finding "skimpy photos" just isn't even worth mentioning anymore it's so common.

    • RE: Application Virtualization in Linux Environment

@EddieJennings The answer is that you don't have to do anything special. You login to another host (SSH, VNC, whatever) and run your applications. The published apps thing is really just automatically running a single app from a remote host. In any other environment it's so easy that I don't even think about it. Licensing is where Microsoft and Citrix make things difficult.

And I apologize to everyone for venting and veering this overall question/topic off the rails.

Right now I'm working on a new project I've been tasked with: Creating several scripts, one for setting default credentials for all IIS Sites, another for setting up application pools, another for websites, another for application setup, another for shared configuration.

Since this project is so simple, I'm thinking about creating a Powershell GUI for the scripts. (and also asking if I can just combine them all...Though I think I'll make them all separate as requested and then just make the one with the GUI)

So finally, after two weeks of literally doing nothing, I have work.

No worries. This thread is a good place to come vent.

Also, they purposely made the decision to let threads take their own course. Lots of threads weave through topics like a quilt. Not ideal to find the thing you said 2 years ago I'll grant you, but also allows a better exchange of information.

@Romo You need to set the preference in Manage your device -> Priner properties -> Advanced -> Printing Defaults. Set your default there instead of the place you'd think it should be set.

@WrCombs said in zip and . rar files?:

In my ever growing quest to learn IT I've came across a .rar File (Winrar file -- Right? )

So what's the difference between a . rar file and a .zip File?

I thought they were the same thing more or less just the .rar file is the Windows Version of a .zip file.
And to extra the .zip you have to use winrar (?)

      Excuse the Noobness. Just curious.

So there is no difference - a .rar file is a zip file (both are compressed files/folders)
The only difference in the compressed file is the software you use to compress the file -
Right? or did I totally miss that ?

      Halfway there.

They all do the same thing, but how they do it is different. Like setting up a VPN, they all do the same thing, but use different encryption algorithms. .zip .rar and .7z all use a different compression algorithm by default. Most also let you choose different algorithms as well.

7zip is by far the best out of the ones your looking at. It's so much faster than most other programs.

What's the relationship between xcp-ng and Xen Orchestra? Doesn't XCP-NG have adequate management functionality on its own, or does it, but it's hard to use?

Just wondering what advantage Xen Orchestra offers???

Xen Orchestra was their original product. It's a web based management platform for XenServer.

XCP-NG, being the open source compilation of XenServer, has the same management tools as XenServer. A windows based installed program and a local tui.

So Xen Orchestra to either system is a big plus in that you are no longer tied to a single OS for managing the system remotely. In addition to all the other features it brings, like patch management and backups. @DustinB3403 install instructions and script still work great https://mangolassi.it/topic/12809/xen-orchestra-community-edition-installing-with-yarn

    • Microsoft Dynamics, do not use

Our Microsoft Dynamics vendor had to call in a 4th party (they are a 3rd party already) support company to finish our update, which is only 2018.

I have no idea how much the licensing costs, but the support cost to roll out last years version is off the charts. Our client was told that everything was ready to go, but the day we had 3 tech scheduled to roll out the upgrade, it was all broken.

Took us all day just to fix the software issues, we're doing the actual roll-out today.

I wouldn't complain, but this is the 5th time I've been involved in a roll out or update to Microsoft's accounting software (they keep changing the name), and all of them have been a complete disaster like this.

Do yourselves a favor and shoot it down as soon as it gets brought up by management.

2.) System Analysis and Design is missing on my documents,

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't System Analysis and Design just being able to determine what type of computer and what hardware it should include for different business tasks? IE Can you design a computer for a given task?

It can be done automatic. It's not that it is not automated, it is that the scheduler is not exposed and you have to put in a ticket for Scale to set up the schedule for you. So the miss is not in functionality but in interface.

Completely forgot, the tech did mention that. Yeah, they sent one of the 'engineers' and not a sales guy to the NE Ohio Spicecorps meeting. One of the best vendor sponsored meetings ever.
