That's how I picture Americans - if there's something you don't like, shoot it. 😉

      Sad but true.

I have actually loaded a snowman with TNT and shot it before. That was fun.

Dang... now all I need is a snowman and some TNT, lol.

It's a good project. We had old TNT decaying in the basement and had to dispose of it. Didn't buy it just for this. I found a bag of it one day as a kid and was like "dad, what's this" and he freaked out since TNT becomes pretty unstable sitting in a leather satchel for twenty odd years.

      I've used tannerite before. It's a blast 🙂

When I was a teen my buddy's dad did civil war reenactments, and had a bunch of tannerite in the basement. We were playing with fireworks, and he brought up a can, showed us how to use it, and went back inside, leaving us to our own devices. I have no idea how no one got hurt, but it was fun.

    • RE: My Journey to Becoming a Linux End User on Linux Mint

I know exactly where you are coming from. I am currently using OSX with VM Fusion running a Windows 7 domain connected box, and a Linux Mint system all as full screen side by side desktops. OSX and Windows have shared user file space, so the Desktop and Documents has the same files, and I can just change OS with a 3 finger swipe. I haven't found a perfect 1 size fits all OS. Somethings I prefer doing in Mac, Some things work better in Windows, and occasionally I need something in Linux. Having the option to "change" OS's instantly with a swipe works best for me.

    • RE: Help a little car ;)

Car guy here. Typically with small parts like this they come in an assembly. I am betting you won't be able to buy this single part, but you can buy a new fuel pump assembly, which would likely contain it. I am just speculating. That being said, if you are having your mechanic drop the fuel tank, I would invest the money and replace the pump and every single seal and part that could fail while your in there. You are going to have quite a bit of money in labor just taking the tank off, the labor in replacing all these parts while they are in is nominal versus having to pay someone to do it all over again in a year when something else in there fails.

    • RE: Samsung to Recall Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone Over Reports of Fires

I had a 3Gs iPhone then switched to Android for 3 consecutive phones. I even gave SAM a hard time about carrying a silly iPhone. When it came time for a new phone this year, I went with the iPhone SE. I was tired of my Android getting laggy after a couple of months, then getting software updates for over a year after they were released. (My S5 was on Lolipop, and N was in Beta when I switched.). I also wanted a smaller screen, because I hate carrying a 5.5 inch phone in a case in dress pant pockets. It looks like you are trying to smuggle a pop tart. I switched back and I love it. Rock solid, and everything just works. I listen to podcasts at work, and I love having a pair of headphones that pause and work 100% of the time. I don't have to unlock my phone and fiddle around trying to find the right app when my boss walks up out of nowhere to talk to me. I also enjoy days like today when iOS 10 will be released at noon. I will download it with everyone else, and install it with no bloatware, no waiting on Samsung then Verizon.

I had a Windows 7 SP1 lock up on me a few weeks ago. I did everything in this thread 1-2 times and it eventually started working. I let it sit 24 hours before I started and It wouldn't move until I installed the hot fixes.

    • RE: What was your FIRST IT job? And how did you get it?

First full time job I had was being put in charge of cleaning up and managing a retail store database of over 100,000 DVD, Video Game, and Music titles while I was in college. I started writing code to make work easier, then slowly started cleaning up networks and eventually was put in charge of all things IT. By the time I left we had over 45 stores, and a PCI compliant hub and spoke network between them all.

    • RE: Build a Tornado Warning System Using Raspberry Pi

I will rely on the fact that my Phone uses GPS and goes off like an alarm when I am in an area with a weather warning. Also, it isn't something that sneaks up on you. When there are tornadoes in the area i'm tracking them on Radar hours before they are close to my house. Seems like a little overkill to me.

    • RE: Home security - Attempted break-in

I played with x10 equipment back in the day and it worked for me. I haven't used the cameras, but you can setup a motion sensor outside that turns on a light inside, and even turn on a few a few seconds appart like someone is moving through the house. It was reliable, affordable, and kinda fun to setup.

    • Goodbye Pebble

I am not sure if anyone here was a Pebble user or not. I had my Pebble Classic for about a year and loved it. 2 Weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and get a Pebble 2 + HR. Then today the announcement came out that FitBit had for sure bought Pebble, they will be closing Pebble, all non-shipped orders and Kickstarter backing will be canceled and refunded, they will begin phasing out cloud features of the watch, etc. etc. I still had my receipt, and Best Buy honored their return policy and I got a full refund. It sucks, I guess I will have to save up for an Apple Watch as it has been 4 hours and I already kinda miss it. Has anyone else had a technology company just disappear after you bought the hardware?

I used to think that it was only people that had something to hide that should be concerned about stuff like this. When the IRS started targeting conservatives, that changed. It doesn't matter what your affiliation, if the political wind changes, you could be on the receiving end of what ever group is in power.

Well if you don't make mistakes on your taxes, what does an audit matter? 😉

I'm pretty big fan of Scotty Karate: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1471/28039/

The next time I brew a strong dark belgian I plan on grabbing a bottle of okay scotch and making hot scottchies with some of the wort; I've been told they are fantastic.

And if I'm not drinking an Ale I'm usually enjoying a gin and tonic. Hendrick's and Tanqueray are usually on standby at all times.

Best cheap scotch IMHO is Famous Grouse. It is mixed from the leftovers of several major labels.

Preston Lacy from Jackass is from my home town and comes back here all the time. I run into him at local bars. Super nice guy, but being the 1 celebrity in town, We try to leave him alone and not make stupid jokes while the guy is just trying to go out for a beer in peace.

You should try and make him feel more welcome by like, kicking him in the crotch, or something.

Yeah that is the thing. Every drunk A-Hole yells out "Hey It's Jackass", and wants him to do a stunt. He just wants to drink a few beers at a quiet table. He seems to genuinely appreciate just saying "Hey Preston" and raising a glass in his direction.

@scottalanmiller I haven't been working on anything big in the last couple days. I also updated to VMWare Fusion 10 Pro from 8. It has made my dev VM's noticeably more snappy. I'm not 100% sure if that is the file system, VMWare's hardware changes, or spooky magic, but I'll take it.

On another note why is everyone now Skipping version 9? iPhone 8 >iPhone X (10), VMWare Fusion 8 > 10, Windows 8.1 > 10... What is going on?
