@RestoronixSean just pulled someone out of a car wreck.

      That's good/not good. Everyone okay?

Hit and run. Guy almost had a heart attack due to a heart condition, but medics are there and he seems to be okay.

@RestoronixSean got her plates and even a picture, though. So won't be good for her.

WTF, that's a load of crap. Good on him for managing to get that!

    • RE: Virtualization Redemption?

There is one option not mentioned here that I don't think is a good fit here but has to be mentioned because from a technical perspective I am pretty sure is the best option, but of the OP is not an expert on this probably is not something that he wants to learn on the customer's dime: DRBD Proxy.

DRBD is what makes XenServer able to do HA for free. DRBD Proxy is an add on for the storage layer that allows DRBD to natively handle the asynchronous replication to the DR site using nothing but the existing tools and technologies. No need for backup products or third party products at all. Everything can be handled by the Xen / Linux / DRBD stack for both the local as well as the remote site!

Still want backups, of course, but you can use any backup technology or product for that and do not need to worry about the replication piece. It would be an integrated cluster between the two sites.

Life Cycle controller updates on the server at home. Then installing new Hyper Visor.... Then getting Plex back online. Fun night!

      What is the new hypervisor?

Yep, KVM. I was on Xen Server, which I had zero problems with. But now, it's time for a change. Going with Fedora 26.

Fedora 27 has been approved for release next week.

Of course.... Oh well. I'm committed already.

The update will probably be easy, it normally is.

Okay then, I guess the smaller 3TB drives are just a silly choice. I can only imagine that this is because they are in short supply or something.

I agree, that seems to be where we are. RAID 10 makes sense, that workload is almost all database and there don't seem to be affordable 10K SAS drive options so we are a bit stuck there. Not very many options with those kind of budgetary constraints. Kind of just have to do what has to be done.

    • RE: Backup File Server to DAS

Yes, I was thinking that CrashPlan is free and can backup to DAS or NAS, whatever is needed. More powerful and flexible than the built in Windows backup option and since it is free, no downsides.

@WrCombs said in Sonic Wall Rules?:

I created Ip objects, put to a group and set the Other network to be able to view those IP's and only those IPs.

      Is that correct?

That sounds correct. SonicWall is always hard to visualize without just working right in the console.

    • IIS Running But Cannot Connect

This has to be something silly but I figured you guys could get me through it far faster than if I was digging on my own. I have a Server 2012 R2 IIS setup and I had an ASP.NET application that I was porting working fine. Then the machine rebooted and now it will not connect. I get a 503 error "service is unavailable" when going to the same URL that worked before. In fact, even just http://localhost/ gives that error.

The service is running. If I go into the IIS Manager, the site says it is up. How do I track down the source of the 503?

We use Zabbix but at the moment only for a "is it up" monitor

There is so much that you can do with Zabbix. Very powerful platform.
