@jaredbusch I am amazed that they don't serve lunch. A lot of the grants for schools from the federal govt is determined by how many kids the school has on free/ reduced lunches.

RE: Google Keep
I use Keep for random/quick notes or task list. I have several notes on what to pick up at the grocery store if we are having various meals we do at my house. For more organization, I have setup myself my own Bookstack website.

They put sugar into everything to make it taste sweet.
They put sugar into everything to make it addictive. I believe it is that sinister. Honestly, it is as bad as tobacco companies when they denied (even after knowing it) that smoking causes cancer. They are now linking Alzheimer's to insulin resistance in the brain. Also, a lot of health diseases are linked to sugar now. The big food companies should be held liable. Only 10 companies control almost every large food and beverage brand in the world.*

@penguinwrangler Id disagree and say who cares about what food kids like? They havent earned it. Let them eat that garbage, esp if parents are too stupid/lazy to give them worthwhile food. Also, who in the world likes elementary school food? It is the worst food of all time. Horse meat and sawdust sandwiches...
Nah... We got good food in elementary school. Middle School was so-so... Highschool is where they broke out the horse meat & sawdust... Oh, and don't forget the Concussion biscuits.
The issue is, what would you define as good food? Healthy food can taste really bad, be super good for you but taste bad (okay unhealthy food can taste bad too). I am not saying all healthy food taste bad or vice versa but a lot of people both kids and adults won't eat "healthy" food. My oldest stepson (he is 17) is having medical problems because he won't eat right. We bought him a nutribullet told him to mix up his veggies with some fruit and just gulp it down fast. He won't do it. The answer to his problem is better nutrition but he won't do it.
In the school setting kids come back and say they didn't eat lunch and the parents are mad because they don't serve food the kids want to eat. Then parents are complaining to the principal about this and they are trying to deal with it. However the principal is worried about the test results and honestly just wants to keep the parents quiet, so they can focus on what is important. Hence, even though they would like to tackle this issue it isn't that important to them. Honestly, it isn't that important to our society. Until we demand better nutrition all around, it won't come to our schools. We need to demand that they take out sugar from everything. However, they put sugar into everything because of the low-fat idea. Take out fat and add sugar. Also sugar is addictive so people will crave the food, a win for the food companies.

You know why because the prison has the incentive to feed the prisoners healthy meals. Healthy meals = less sick inmates. Also, who cares if the inmates complain. They are just inmates. Trust me I worked in corrections for six years. Schools have to contend with how well the students like the food.

Going to take a quick look at em, do these also work for the outside?
Not yet weatherproof. But they have that in planning accoring to their social posts I found.
Making an acrylic enclosure is not hard. Also, there are several Camera enclosures you probably could make work, with a little work on your part.

@penguinwrangler hell yeah. I drive 30 minutes to work, and work in a rather rural area, so there's not really that option around me. Man I kind of wish there was, though.
Best part is that there is a bus stop literally right outside my work. Right now it isn't too bad weather wise goes. But soon when it is hitting upper 90s + humidity, waiting on the bus won't be fun.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Just rode the bus to work for the first time. They opened a nice new park n ride station near my house and my work will pay for a bus pass, which means I don't have to pay for parking, which was $100 a month.

@r3dpand4 I sent my prediction to a peer who has also been in crypto for several years, he agrees with me. Now it's been peer reviewed.
Actually gold has a value as there is a relatively known amount of it you can access the value based on quantity available and demand. Diamonds, on the other hand, has supply control so I would give that one to you.

But what can't be argued is that that is what is required. Broad availability of weapons reduces safety,
Then why does California have higher crime rate than Texas? Guns are much much more available in Texas than in California.

That's the issue with knives, we choose what we feel is best for others. The people in question aren't the buyers or choosers of the knives, but those that don't choose them.
What exactly do you mean by this? Me choosing to have a nice set of pointy Kitchen cutlery in my house does not mean it is best for you, nor would I ever say it was. You are free to have or not have any kitchen cutlery. Only you can determine that.

RE: Unifi Controller On Vultr Or Other
I use vultr and I did let's encrypt on mine, fail2ban, make sure firewall was up and running, disable ssh with passwords and use ssh keys. Plus logs go to my central log server. I get alerted for failed login attempts and for all successful logins. I very seldom have to log into the server.

@scottalanmiller The overarching point is more of "do you think rounding off kitchen knives will curb violent crime?"
If the issue is spur of the moment domestic crime, which I believe that it is, then I believe that it will curb the degree of damage done from violent crime, yes.
Is it good to regulate to that degree? That's a different matter. Do I think it will help the real world issue, yes I do. Do I think it's overstepping bounds for legitimate tools that people use for cooking, yes I do.
So it is a balance. How many "they just grabbed whatever was at hand" violent crimes do you want to curb vs. how annoying do you want it to be for normal people to gut fish? It also would likely reduce accidents in the kitchen. I know that having access to pointed knives in my own home is a problem. My wife swings them about wildly because she can't remember that she has a knife in her hand if she starts talking, the kids can't remember to stay out of the kitchen while other people are cooking, knives fall often, and no one but me will set one down anywhere but point out and at the edge of the counter.
I sure wish we only had rounded knives around here.
I have to disagree with your reasoning here. It sounds like in your household you might benefit from buying non-pointy kitchen knives. I don't have that problem. Have had pointy kitchen knives around me all my life and my children's lives and we are all fine. We should have the freedom to decide what is best for each of us. The London mayor wants to grind down knives is blaming knives for the increasing violent crime and not the actions of the person holding the knife. People will always find ways to kill, harm and maim their fellow man. Someone willing to stab someone with a knife is already breaking the law, a law saying you can't have pointy knives doesn't mean anything to them. They are criminals and disobey laws such as no pointy knives, or better yet do not assault your fellow man, period. I was a prison guard and I found a homemade semiauto pistol in the prison (illegal to have firearms inside a prison, but imagine that a criminal didn't obey that law either) that was made in the maintenance area. We tested it and it was a working pistol. Got about 5 shots off before it jammed. I am a licensed concealed carry holder. I walk around with a loaded 9mm on my hip all the time. The gun has yet to magically hurt someone. I hate to say it as much good as there is in my area and there are good things about St. Louis, crime is out of control. A house a few blocks from me was a drug house, this was in a nice sleepy suburban area. A home just a few miles from us had a violent robbery happen. I refuse to be a victim. Taking away weapons from law abiding citizens is never the answer.

@penguinwrangler said in Ubiquiti Unifi APs - Do You Need a Controller?:
I bet if you ask around you can find someone with an old Core 2 Duo machine lying around somewhere and they will give it to you. Take it, install Debain on it, and then install the controller. Configure the APs. You can then shut down the controller and store the computer away until you need to do something, like add an AP or update the firmware.
Never do this. This means no updates and unpatched devices.
@penguinwrangler said in Ubiquiti Unifi APs - Do You Need a Controller?:
Edit: I have a store near me called EPC, and they sell recycle older PCs. I think you can pick up something from them for $25 bucks. You might look for a similar store near you if nothing else.
Crooks IMO.
I did indicate that you would turn it on and update the firmware when an update came out.

Who wants to have to bring out a physical PC every single time they want to do such basic things as add a new AP or push updates? What a ballache just to keep on top of the firmware updates.
Did I say it was ideal, no.
