That's why I like European McDonalds. It's all automated. So fast and nice.

Can't wait for it to become a bigger thing here.

With a push for higher minimum wage, it will happen sooner than later.

Even before Ryzen, I have always thought AMD to be a good bang for the buck in the desktop market. Unless you had the need for the extra horsepower from the better Intel chips you could get better bang for the buck from AMD.

Transactions that happen in Mangolassi would be covered by US law because when you post on Mangolassi that is where it is hosted. I buy my house water filers from a company in Idaho. I live in Illinois. I can sue that company if I wanted in Idaho state court or in Federal court because it is commerce across state lines. I cannot sue them in Illinois court. They don't have a business presence in Illinois and are not required to comply with Illinois law. As the consumer, I am aware of this, I always look for where the person/business is that I am about to buy from is located. Someone in Spain who uses the internet and accesses something, not in their country is agreeing to use Mangolassi which is governed by US law and not EU. A person using the internet to access something in America is no different if they used a plane to come to American and do business either way they are covered under US law

Desktop lacks the licensing complications of the server size. For desktops, before this AMD was still great. But this gives it a HUGE incentive on servers, too!

I realized that just pointing out the desktop part too. Honestly why go with a Microsoft server the complexity they add with their licensing is reason enough to avoid them. So many ways to offer functions you get with Microsoft servers with Linux.

@nashbrydges Someone can be extradited only if they have broken the law in that country. If I hack into servers in Thailand, I am committing a crime in Thailand and can then be legally extradited from the US to Thailand because we do have an extradition treaty with Thailand. If I post on ML and insult their King, which is a crime in Thailand, I cannot be extradited to Thailand.

We are looking at going with LTO-8. The capacity and speed and the ability that it is offline and can be offsite extremely easy were all winners in our books. Offline meaning once the tape is in storage it is not on a network and can get hit by ransomware.

It's just a requirement for us. But yes, your points are valid. 12TB uncompressed per tape isn't that bad. I was looking for an upgrade because 1.5TB for LTO-5 isn't exactly what fits todays capacities.

We can't use cloud backup, hasn't been approved for us yet. So the capacity of the LTO-8 tapes is what we like.

I feel like on SW I can see a day by day slide into all out lying and backbiting. It's crazy. A month ago, it wasn't like this. Now, I feel like every other thread I see is someone outright lying and attacking only to hurt people in the thread. The acceptance of completely falsification has taken a turn culturally.

As a culture/society we have rejected reality/truth/facts and inserted what we want reality/truth/facts to be. I have noticed this for a long time.

I don't understand why "HEY USERS, STOP WATCHING YOUTUBE ALL DAY!!!!" isn't the obvious solution here. Your coworker wants to use tech to solve a people issue. No video streaming = no more bandwidth issues.

I'm using youtube as an example, I have no idea what they are watching or on what platform. I just know it's not hosted by them and they access it over the WAN

His point was - when people complain (or logging servers send alerts about issues) you look at who and what is happening and tell those people to knock it off.

I have been told it's for business purposes. It's a foster care non-profit so i have no idea how or why, but let's assume they are right for now

Ouch. But since they are a non-profit, tell them to have fun calling up their ISP to ask for more bandwidth pro bono.

They are paying you to work there, right? Don't fall for their "can I get that for free" BS.

What would be better is getting a second line just for the voice.

Voice takes so little that it doesn't cost that much usually. I would go this route.

A second business line will still have a minimal cost, that could be like $80/m

I meant VOIP takes so little bandwidth. Sorry bad wording.

Trying to come up with a restaurant that won't be super crowded tonight because I'm not in the mood to cook dinner.

It is officially Lent, so maybe a steakhouse, depends on how big the Catholic population is in your area.

Good point. . . might be able to go out to a great steakhouse tonight. . .

Longhorn Steakhouse has a call ahead feature, at least mine does. You can get on the waiting list while you are driving there (at least that is what usually works for me) then usually you wait 10 minutes.

(Does it matter i have no idea what half those commands did, but yet i have a working system ๐Ÿค” )

I guess that was the point of the post, was to make it crazy simple. I suppose whether it matters if you have no idea or not depends on whether you want to learn what those commands do or not ๐Ÿ˜‰

That is the point of my guides. They are for both education and getting a working system.

I could easily make it a script like @scottalanmiller did to my Nextcloud 13 guide, but I donโ€™t want to.

I want my guides to educate as well as get the job done. I think the way that I breaks them up with a little blurb in between each set helps give it that right balance. Too much text and people who do not want to learn just move on. Not enough text, and it is basically just a script and the person learns nothing.

Learn by doing is an axiom for me.
