I don't know that faxing is the worst.

I'd say email is to faxing what radio is to ham.

Some day when the world burns and our enemies have destroyed the web, there will be nerds faxing each other over POTS.

I don't know if faxing is the worse either, but it is still one of the worse. Honestly though shouldn't printers be on the list, at the least the crappy ones?

This isn't right... This is the opposite of how intelligent people think. As professionals we should want to be challenged. Scientists, engineers, IT, etc all do better with challenges. If I am wrong about something point it out!

We are generally talking about making decisions with hundred of thousands or millions of dollars daily. Who the hell wouldnt want to be called out if they are doing something wrong?

So sick of this snowflake mentality where everyone's feelings matter. Fuck your feelings. There is wrong and there is right...

There is an issue of a lack of listening and there is an issue that we can't challenge someone's ideas. I have my beliefs/positions, you want to have a polite discussion I will have it with you. I will listen to you and I want you to challenge the hell out of me and you know what, you might change my mind. If someone challenges you and you are forced to logically defend your positions it will make you flush them out more. I also have the right to challenge your positions. You challenge what some people believe they don't want to defend it. They immediately smear you or say you have offended them. There is a lack of thinking in today's society. They just take what someone says and run with it without investigating it for themselves.

I think this is always how people have been, hardly a new thing. We just see it differently now that so many things that used to be private discussions are now public, and recorded.

Some element of it might have always been there but it is worse now. I believe there was a time where it was better. When I went to college for my history degree (first degree) I remember the various religious groups coming together with the freethinkers (mostly atheists) having lively debates. Then we would all go out and do fun stuff together, frisbee football, scavenger hunts, etc. Also, the College Democrats and the College Republicans would get together have debates and then do things together. They would also pick a charity together and we all would work together to raise money for the charity. I would say that is not the norm anymore.

Yeah, this is nearly everyone affected. Thank goodness for AMD and ARM.

AMD isn’t much better. They have PSP which is just as dangerous.

Time to move everything to ARM.

This is ARM's time to make a bold move to capture a good part of the x86 server market.

I like going to the firing range. When I worked at the prison you could go practice whenever you wanted. So that is what I will do. It is my "alone" time so to speak. I have a little .22 pistol, .22 ammo is cheap, I use it to go plinking.

We are looking at going with LTO-8. The capacity and speed and the ability that it is offline and can be offsite extremely easy were all winners in our books. Offline meaning once the tape is in storage it is not on a network and can get hit by ransomware.

Why two hosts if you are forbidden to use them for HA?

He doesn't understand HA. He prefers IPOD because that is what he is familiar with.

That's like being familiar with a car crash so refusing to drive on the road.

Isn't that more like being familiar with car crashes so he doesn't wear his seat belt?

    • RE: Raised Floor budget estimate

In a classroom setting having ethernet jacks and power in the floor might be a good idea. So you don't have polls coming down in the classroom from a drop-down ceiling. In a server room, I don't like the idea of having to get to those cables later on.

It is officially Lent, so maybe a steakhouse, depends on how big the Catholic population is in your area.

Ive not done this for qb file storage. I use Windows file server for this.
I cant envision a scenario where it would be simpler or better than putting it on an smb share on Windows Server either. Just seems like it would break and youd be up a creek. Imagine calling qb support with a Linux server issue.

All the servers at the client location are Linux. The current QB runs off of a Windows 7 box that is due to be replaced. Also according to QB this is a supported way of doing this.

Was really stressed lately and so I fell off the diet. My wife was under stress as well so she fell off with me. I went to weigh myself and wow, I still lost three pounds! I didn't tell my wife. She asked me "how much did you gain?" I avoided the question. She then kept pestering me. So finally I said, I lost three pounds. At which point she just turned around grabbed her stuff for work and promptly flipped me off and left.

However, this is the first time I can say that "I need a vacation" the last two to three months have been very stressful for me and my wife, mainly both of our jobs have just been insane. We need to relax. Smokey Mountains here we come!

@jackcpickup We are doing a cabin. We have four kids so cabins are cheaper and we can bring our dog with us. This should be our view. I will enjoy it in the morning while I soak in the hot tub!

My muscle relaxers and pain meds kicked in enough for me to finish my Wife's new desk, she is going back to school for accounting. Made this table from scratch for her. She couldn't find one reasonably priced enough for her. She wanted plenty of desktop space. This is 3'x4'. 0_1536069253046_IMG_20180903_184639.jpg

    • RE: Do I need help desk system ?

We have Spiceworks setup. People email an address we have setup for help. Spiceworks sucks in the email and creates the ticket. Other than when we respond out of it people don't know anything about the ticketing system. You can really change how and when Spiceworks sends out emails, making it almost invisible to the end user. I recommend some type of ticketing system just for tracking purposes.
