That's cause to release the Purple shirted eye stabber upon them IMO

Hah :') You backed the game on kickstarter..?

      Nope. Looks hilarious though.

I took a punt on this one, missed out on CAH, Exploding Kittens AND Secret Hitler...so thought I'd actually give this a shot lol...

I'd have to guess that in the US, the companies put that into the TOS that they manage the cable modem, I would expect little difference for the UK.

Heck, the government is allowed to audit the number of TVs you have in your house in the UK - talk about weird!

Hmmm, I'll have to look into it, but I'd be surprised if they'd be allowed to remotely manage a personal piece of kit in the UK unless they had a warrant etc...

      Huh? The TV's..?

This is the natural state of anything with a monopoly. Doesn't mean that they will not make an effort to show up on time, but it does mean that they have no reason to be concerned with customer service issues. Bad customer service is still better than what their competitor does... because they don't have one.

So much this, where I was working last one company had a monopoly on EVERYTHING telecoms...was mental, £90 a month for 5GB...and 8p a MB overage charge...I don't see why any government would agree to a monopoly on that scale...just kills it...

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_licensing_in_the_United_Kingdom

You have to pay a tax based on the number of TVs in your house. They can audit you at will if they don't think you're being legit about it.

Not per number, just IF you have a TV and they Prove you use it to watch live TV (i.e. if it's just hooked up to a console, with no antenna it doesn't count) then you pay a set fee a year... 🙂

Interesting article from someone who runs a repair business...

But yeah, another line to add to the "reasons I hate Apple" list, it's quite big nowadays...and yes, I'm fairly sure this is illegal in the UK too...

It's not bad...but the price is super high when it's not MUCH better than the three (1.2Ghz quad core stock, 1GB RAM for £32) will be interested to see how it develops...

Different architecture, though. Very different possible use cases. AMD64 is a lot more flexible. This will run Windows 10 just fine or a Linux desktop.

ah, didnt think about that...so it's verging on Intel Computestick territory rather than Pi territory..?

That's what it was already doing BEFORE the update....

So the update wasn't for security at all and it's openly a scam? What extra security are they getting by bricking phones?

I mean, okay, a bricked phone IS more secure, obviously....

was gonna say... 😉 but yeah, that's what Jess says in the article I posted, as soon as a new home button is attached, it cancels apple pay and apple touch features...

My four year old is a tough negotiator. She just talked her mom into a 20% increase in her Pringles allowance. She now gets six Pringles with her yoghurt, not just five. Good thing that she stuck to her guns.

Pringles...and Yoghurt...?! What weird combination is that?!

    • IT in TV Shows

      So, I finally decided to check out Mr. Robot last night, and after watching the first episode I found myself thinking;
A.) How it seems really good, and they can go a lot of places
B.) How SO many "IT" shows get it SO wrong...

Like Scorpion - a Lot of people raved about that show when it started, I watched it and got SO annoyed I couldn't even finish a single episode, making things more complicated/chatting absolute testicles about stuff, to make it seem more "techy" or some poop...but it just made it so unrealistic... My ex-boss used to love it, but when I pointed out how many mistake were in the 20 minutes I actually watched she just brushed it off and said the usual "but it's TV" - yes, but that SHOULDN'T EVER be an excuse for not doing something justice etc...Hopefully Mr. Robot won't go/have gone down the same path...but yeah, any one else feel this?

Obviously, that's without even mentioning the programs which can enhance a single pixel into a clear numberplate........

      Ho-lee Krap!
I just this minute saw a proximity faux pas on Big Bang Theory! A show about geekiness and neediness and they can't get their gadgetry correct!?

I don't watch that show because of that stuff. There is so little basic common sense tech checking on it. I remember like the first episode they talked about how they were "so high tech" and had a T1. A T1 was embarrassing and a decade out of date by the time that episode first aired. Even the non-technical people on the show should have noticed how embarrassingly inappropriate that was and that it made the main characters incredibly non-technical and that they were anything but into computers, they didn't care about them at all.

I lost interest right there. I knew that they weren't taking their material seriously. And the characters are just insanely annoying and shallow. There is nothing to the show. None of it is well thought out and they just throw buzzwords around. Shows about "smart people" written by dumb people are the most annoying things ever.

and how many top level people use Alienwares..? They used to be good, sure, but now they're basically an overpriced dell with LED lights...
