@gjacobse I also don't know what you mean.
Are you talking about Word and Writer?
In Word, you can move paragraphs, sections... but not page. Page is not an object.

RE: Another RDS server?
@siringo Besides decreasing number of vCPU, I would check does your other (non-RDS) VM needs that much RAM. If you can decrease RAM for second VM, and give fixed amount of RAM to each VM, your RDS VM could significantly decrease swap usage which is probably bottleneck.
SSD would be nice

Do you have experience with usage of this size (180.000 files, 40 users, many group folders) and do they have similar problems?
We have about that many users, but far fewer files, here internally. We've had people accidentally delete things similarly, but on a smaller scale. They were able to recovery from the "Trash Bin" method, in that example case.
Number of our files is ridiculous. Together with Dropbox, that we still use, we have almost 300.000 files.
We probably need to reorganize our use, sort old files if they need to be archived, and identify and delete old junk files. But we also don't have organizational experience with how to organize this "cleaning" and how to establish system to avoid clutter in future. -
RE: XCP-NG installation on windows server
@irj said in XCP-NG installation on windows server:
You really shouldn't be booting for USB, and should be using a hypervisor even if it's hyper V (which isn't the best IMO, but still 100x better than booting from USB).
Once you get the hypervisor up and running then you can start creating VMs from it and get up and running.I don't know what are you trying to say?
@perja11 is trying to install XCP-NG as hypervisor, so it's OK to boot from USB (and install on baremetal) -
RE: Single 32gb DDR4 RAM vs 2x16gb
@irj I would go with 2x16GB in dual channel mode so that you can have better memory performance.
Performance impact will depend on what your workload is,
We put single stick in desktops where performance is not important, but if you go with Ryzen 5000, I would go with dual-channel.

exactly - if they are, then the techs will be covered by your device licenses - if not, you'll need another device license for every machine they will attempt to log in from.
Or get User CALs for the techs that roam.
You cannot combine user RDS CALs with device RDS CALs on same system.

RE: Restrict access to parent folder but allow child folder access
@fs483 I think Scott's suggestion to keep all permissions at top level folders is probably best practice.

Seems like a good time to try convincing the boss we should move our emails to O365. I know he'll say no, but this is ammo for sure.
I don't think that email only justify cost of O365.
I have excellent mail experience with different web hosting providers that provide email service included for a fraction of price of O365.For example, Hetzner offers 300GB space with unlimited mail accounts for 17 EUR / cca. 20 USD a month.
(I have not used Hetzner's mail services but I have very good experinece with them in cloud/bare metal services)I mean - you would not convince me to buy O365 with this argument

@Pete-S I use the RB2011, RB3011 primarily for routing and I use the Cloudswitch PoE switches for switching.
Thanks, I will for sure check them out.
I recommend RB4011 (new generation, faster then RB2011 or RB3011)

I'm leery about anything running a Celeron J or N series CPU, a Pi is probably going to perform better.
We replaced RPi4 with Celeron J4005 (Intel NUC), and it was significantly faster.
They were both on Linux, displaying live web pages on 2 monitors, and RPi was strugling.
J4005 is very similar to mentioned N4020 -

Any time I try to set this now results in failure after failure and code regeneration - What's the use if restart after reboot if the code changes?
What do you mean by "code regenaration"?
I use Supremo, Meshcentral2 and Teamviewer, and have no issues, after reboots.
I used the 'incorrect' term code... Password.
You need to setup "unattended access" with fixed password.
Look here:
https://community.teamviewer.com/English/kb/articles/1227-setup-secure-unattended-access-to-your-devicesSame is with Supremo.
Meshcentral is great and free, but you need to setup your server.

Am I imagining things or did Windows licensing at one point allow for use of a virtual environment on top of the physical install? If this is (still?) the case, would a W10 install in vbox do the trick?
Licenses fo Windows Server editions allow this.
Standard Windows 10 licenses do not allow running in VMs. -

There is one example.
It is geo blocked in my country.
But I do not find it racistShould we call it unnecessarily discriminatory (Instead of racist?)
Yes, OK. Because otherwise, I think we are misusing term "racism" and that is not good (true meening of the word would be lost slowly)
On the other hand, I do not find it "discriminatory" either.
I think people are free to geoblock their sites if they think it is usefull for them and if they do not break any law etc.
I do not think we are "entitled" to access all sites by default - if someone do not want it's site to be accessible from Europe, I'm find with it.But we do not now what site was in question here in the first place (so I cannot claim that there is nothing discriminatory with site in question)

RE: Fedora 39 Server as host with HAproxy and Qemu/KVM virtual machines. Trouble with communication.
@Woti How many LAN cards/ports do you have on your physical host?
If you want to share the same physical LAN for multiple VMs, you need to use "Bridged mode", not "Direct attachment".
Have you even tried with Bridged mode?

With my DynDNS provider I have created corresponding domains for the respective VMs,
Why would you need more then one DynDNS domain for your VMs, if they are both on same external IP?
(I know this is not the question, but I wonder)
