So Xen or community XenServer? Is there a difference?

If you are going to go cloud, of course OpenStack is where to start. Once you go there, you have to choose your hypervisor. Xen and KVM are the choices there. Both work fine.
Any thoughts on Mirantis vs other packages vs vanilla OpenStack?

RE: Proxmox, Mirantis Openstack, KVM, oh my
Hmm, I had read some things that were very critical of Xen in general because of the way it has been controlled by the larger players and made mostly to suit their needs. Perhaps I need to add it back in to my list of options.

RE: Proxmox, Mirantis Openstack, KVM, oh my
My budget is "as little as possible", which puts all but the community version of XenServer or Xen out of my reach.

Proxmox, Mirantis Openstack, KVM, oh my
So I'm looking at reworking an existing private cloud that is not in a good place. It is running on an old version of Ubuntu, and is old enough that none of the online documentation references the correct switches for nova or glance. In some ways we don't really need a private cloud, and that is why the non cloud options are there. I have buy in from all stakeholders to move to a regular VM model if we decide to go that direction. At this point ESXi is not part of the equation. Has anyone here worked with any of the above, and have any recommendations? We have 4 hosts with 4 sockets each that I'd like to be able to do live migration at least.

RE: Verizon Windows Phone Users of MangoLassi - You Holding Out Hope Or Gonna Switch?
All that ranting aside, I don't have a good answer for the VZW/W10M issue. I'm hopeful MS and T-Mobile will kiss and make up, but that doesn't do much for you Garak.

RE: Verizon Windows Phone Users of MangoLassi - You Holding Out Hope Or Gonna Switch?
So I was quickly dumped out of the Windows eco system. I got an iPhone for work and had my Lumia 925 start freaking out on me I switched to a Nexus 4 that I had for testing. Every day I am frustrated by something about these other two OSs. Everything is harder. Some of it is lack of familiarity (swipe right to unlock vs swipe up). Others are just crappy design. Last night I wanted to mark an email as unread in the native mail app on my iPhone. On WP it is a long tap, select mark unread. On iOS (I'll see if I can remember all the steps) I had to (nope, can't remember, just going to have to recreate it) tap Edit in the upper right (wtf are so many critical, repeatable actions at the top of the screen in iOS), select the message, tap Mark, then select Mark as unread.

And letting English growth be driven by Indian influences will not end well for the language. I have been there, and heard what they speak and teach in several regions.
I agree whole heartedly, but I'm curious how that's any different than, say, Australia or North America?
Regional dialects are nothing new.
There are dialects and then there are hybrids. A dialect is generally understandable to language speakers from another region (once you get past an accent). Indian English in particular is a fusion of their disparate languages with the bastardizations that have been institutionalized through their own teaching systems. They do not, generally, teach the Queen's English.

The English language, and its American derivative have been much abused by sales and advertising over the last few decades, and that makes me very resistant to alterations that serve little to no purpose in my opinion.
Verbification is primarily driven by Eastern influences as the use of English has altered heavily as India is a primary English speaking zone now. In some cases that means incorrect usages are occurring but in others it is new word forms or approaches to speech and, in some cases, preservation of older forms.
This isn't a case of alteration but of recognition, though.
I'm speaking more generically than with attritioning. Try inserting Cloud into your statements and see how that rubs you

RE: New Words That I Am Promoting
Common use doesn't make it a good use of the English language. "Cloud" is one of the more common of the most egregious offenders in this regard. I don't object to making attrition a verb in specific, but in principle. The English language, and its American derivative have been much abused by sales and advertising over the last few decades, and that makes me very resistant to alterations that serve little to no purpose in my opinion.

No. My example is correct use of the word.
No, because you can't make someone attrition. You could say "We are winning the war by means of the attritioning of the enemy's troops."
Scott, you're usually an advocate of clear communication. This is not it.
Which is clearer?
"We are winning the war by attrition."
or
"We are winning the war by means of the attritioning of the enemy's troops."

Yeah, probably. I blame the lack of coffee. Of course I don't drink coffee, but then I can always blame things on it then

It's definitely a good start, though probably still a ways off from practical use. One picture every 35 mins probably isn't that useful. I also wonder, how long would it have to wait before it had enough power to transmit that one image back to a WiFi AP?
It sounds like you're missing the forest with all those trees in the way
The reality of beamed power is not necessarily a panacea, but a step in that direction. Being able to transmit power from inhospitable regions to hospitable ones makes power become no longer a significant survival need (all other variables being constant). We are a long way from that point, but having something like this go from theoretical to practical is a huge step forward. -
RE: When Technical Meets Non-Technical
If you have a boss that is interested in developing you as an individual, take this to them without making it about the coworker. Ask them something like, "Hey, I got some feedback from a coworker that I don't consult enough with my peers. What is your take on that, and do you have any suggestions for how I can be a better tech/coworker?"

RE: Need to rename a Domain Controller
In my experience renaming a DC without following @Dashrender's steps is asking for issues down the road. AD and DNS just don't play well at times, and anything affecting that fragile relationship goes into the "do not do" category for me.

RE: Need to refresh my Cisco skills.
Why not get your hands on GNS3 or PacketTracer to practice on? It is nice having actual physical gear and related issues to work with, but it can be cost and space prohibitive.

RE: Rumors about Windows Compatibility, Are they true?
My first smartphone was a WP7 device, and I've only had WP devices since then. I recently got a Nexus 4 just to play with it. It doesn't have a SIM card right now, so I can't speak to the calling/texting experience, but it is hard to compare them. The app experience is night and day. There are so many options for Android. Frankly it is overwhelming. Anyhow, I like playing with the phone, but that is about it. I like to play games on it. When it comes to day to day functionality of phone/email/whatnot, my WP is a breath of fresh air. Some of that could be chalked up to familiarity, but while there are a few tasks that are easier or simpler on the Android, the majority are much easier to do on WP.

RE: SpiceWorld London 2015
@Minion-Queen should be at her hotel by now. She had made it across the street when I headed to my flat. We're both here, and I'm headed over to the Brewery once I deal with a poweroutage issue back home.
