Log Me in Does.. No agent has to be preinstalled for connecting on the local network without user interaction.

As someone that does not use LMI, how does it do that? I have no idea and I want to know. Is it using some windows protocol? Pushing an angent out on demand to execute and then destroy itself? I can see many ways it can do it, just want to know what it does.

I believe LMI says it uses the windows remote registry service to temporarily run for your session.

@Jason check this gif from screenconnect, the end user machine doesn't have an agent, just enter the code, same way done on LMI, and it connects to the session. Once the session is completed, the screenconnect session gets cleared up

Guys, this is not at all what we we talking about. @JaredBusch you understand what we mean right?

    • Offline Files

We don't use them but for some reason never disabled it administratively with a GPO..

Anyway user turns them on works fine for maybe a year. until today. Technician looks at it his drives aren't showing up at all. Shows he's working offline but the files don't show, weather he's connected to the network or not. Technician then disables the offline files and drives work.. problem is offline the user didn't have offline files setup properly they didn't sync to the server for a good while.

Anyway, check them with file recovery tools most of the C:\windows\csc\ was over written already. from my understanding offline files cache is a database, not individual files, so recovery would be all or none correct? So it wouldn't be worth sending the drive off for recovery?

    • RE: OSX Group Policy...

Why does it need to be pushed out? for 5 computers? You said it needs to be connected to wifi based on device not user.. So just connect it manually. and if you need something to control it 802.1x is how. Pushing out wifi settings via GPO is not a method of controlling which devices have access anyway, that's just making it easier so techs don't have to help users connect.

They can come to your door with lawyers if they actually think youre 'stealing' imaginary property. But they need permission from a court to do so. And you dont have to do anything for them, at all, ever, without this order. At least in the US that is.

Actually they already have permission when you agree to the EULAs.

Sorry haven't used it. I've used Webconverger before and just used the tiles in Mozilla.

That might work. I had them look at it before but they didn't find an option for Tiles. This is for open enrollment/HR stations for employees.

I understand that there are many pieces to a UTM. That is why I am asking what, specifically, SAM considers the good stuff? The good stuff could mean brand, technology type or both.

Juniper, WatchGuard, Checkpoint are usually considered the top contenders in UTM market...

but be prepared say a Junpier SRX5600 base model starts at $30,000.

Some of the check point models start at $150,000.

Watchguard is on the lowerend and I think their most expensive unit is only $50,000.

      @JaredBusch You're right.

But I'm still confused why you have the option under computer settings.

Can you try and join home to AD?

The link is suppose to be there on Home edition so you can join it to Azure AD & inTune for MDM

For 20 users or so, I'd stick with an all-in-one box (UTM) ... Sophos, Sonicwall, pfsense ... all would work, just as well

      Sonicwall is crap.

Pfsense is not really a UTM, it's a firewall sure you can add some packages to it but it doesn't perform that well as a UTM.

Sorry, been away. "Good stuff" was referring to Palo Alto there.

Palo Alto does not make true UTMs they are all considered firewalls. We have them and they are great but they aren't classified as UTMs.

This is what Palo Alto themselves say about UTMs

The only value proposition a UTM provides is to collapse the traditional (broken) network security infrastructure into a single box as a cost savings mechanism.

It's hard to argue actual business usage for a Mac unless you are really doing some heavy music or video editing.

is that even still true? Macs and Windows machines run the same hardware. Most, if not all of the editing software that used to be Mac-centric is also available on Windows. What I don't know - all things being equal except price, is the Mac faster?

It hasn't been true for years.. People just assume that still.

    • RE: Anyone have Fixed Wireless?

Wireless will always have more latency. Also generally there are more Hops in wireless. Wireless is susceptible to weather, tree growth etc. Fiber generally is not.

I fucking wish we could get pricing like that in Canada.

Have a buddy buy it for you and hand ship it up.

border agent: That's a nice server you got there.... be a shame if you had to... pay taxes on it! muahahahaha

Nothing to claim, a buddy gave me this equipment from his personal lab.

"In general, the goods you include in your personal exemption must be for your personal or household use. These goods include souvenirs, gifts that you received from friends or relatives living outside Canada or prizes that you won."

Canada customs gives no f(***)s about gifts, only charging taxes on everything

      https://travel.gc.ca/returning/customs/what-you-can-bring-home-to-canada#conditions

Even in the US you pay gift taxes, they are actually higher near 50% tax rate, unless it is a gift to a spouse or political party.

@pchiodo said in Who is the Real IT Manager?:

The proliferation of this metric is driven from the often times misalignment with IT to Finance. Many organizations place the IT roles under the finance umbrella, and decisions are made based on cost vs. based on need.

Heck even us our IT Managers report the IT Directors, the IT Directors report to the CIO, the CIO reports to the CFO for some odd reason..
