      Only $200? Is that right?

$200 is for their EV (StartSSL™ Extended Validation) product. I believe that they are offering the base StartEncrypt service for free.

I'm sure someone will JIH and correct me if I'm wrong. 😉

I used to use them for their free certs until I got into the LetEncrypt beta. StartCom ain't bad at all.

    • RE: How Do You Teach Everything in IT?

      @hobbit666 said:

This is interesting as I've been wondering about this sort of thing.

Example, Scott has been discussing with me in another thread about thinking about a LANless setup. Question is how and where do I learn this sort of thinking from. I'm self taught in all areas of IT so I still think in terms of LAN/WAN as that's what I've been doing for 14+ years, but where do you get the ideas and guidance on new ways of thinking? Is it from attending things like Spiceworld or other conferences? Or are there good online resources to see what people are doing and how?

As iron sharpens iron, so does one person sharpen another.

I've learned more from folks like @scottalanmiller in the short time I have interacted with him on here and in Spiceworks than I have the last 10 years I've spent in IT.

@thwr Looks like a yes, according to the site. The only way it could get any better would be if they made similar models with POE that would integrate into the UniFi Controller bits.

I'm the asshole that thinks OS X is too sprinkled w/ latency to use for web development. I notice that command + tab has a slight, imperceptible to some people, delay before it fades onto the screen when compared w/ Windows' alt + tab on the same machine. I wouldn't be shocked if I did feel some benefit 💩

I doubt you are the only one. I find that the latest version of OS X (Yosemite?) and the one bfore it is basically unusable for me. Everything is just dirt slow (even on a 21" iMac from 2014). It adds extra characters to files when you access them over a windows share, and a host of other issues.

I have Said iMac sitting on my desk next to me... Running Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V, lol.

I don't mind ads on sites...with the one exception that they are like they are here: visible and out of the way.

Most of the links I see these days (especially on my phone!) all have some kind of thing to interrupt me while I'm reading -- a popup asking for my email, or an add that I have to "scroll away"... I quit looking at a site as soon as it starts that crap.

@david.wiese said in Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab:

@art_of_shred said in Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab:

It's kinda simple. You're building a team. Do you pick people looking for a paycheck, or people with a passion about what you're doing? If you have the option, you're looking for passion... or you shouldn't be the one doing the hiring.

once again passion shouldn't be determined on if they do stuff outside of working hours. I work to get a paycheck yes, but I also show passion for my job while doing so.

@david-wiese -- The difference between the way you work and the way someone with a home lab works could an example like this: I have a home lab, and have setup several VMs, to run this, that and the other, and I talk about that in my interview.

You talk about past projects you've done at your current or previous employer...Yes, you may have the enthusiasm, and passion for it. But because it's all done on the clock, it may come across as you just doing your job and nothing more.

However, since I set everything up in my home lab, and have done it in my own personal time since it is my hobby as well as a source of income, may have a better chance in this type of job interview, because of my obvious passion for learning and doing.

You may be a great and passionate / enthusiastic worker, but because you don't have your own home lab, it can be hard for others to see your passion. (keeping in mind that home lab can be a Desktop + Virtualbox, no need for a basement datacenter!).

Unusually early for me to be posting as it is ~4:30 am here... but I'm awake after sleeping most of the day yesterday, lol. Dang them docs gave me some good drugs... My head only feels like they took a Black & Decker to it as opposed to a Smith & Wesson. (The pain is actually pretty much completely gone at the moment, so I'm not sure if the pain killers are still working or if it will be pretty much gone today).

The cochlear implant is in, so this makes me happy. Will still be another 2 to 6 weeks before they turn it on and configure my speech processors (the over the ear bits that looks like a hearing aid).

In the mean time, I get to be a lazy bum and get waited on hand and foot by my wife, lol.

They know about the problem. You can still use the insert image feature to add your image into a thread. If you know the URL of the image you can insert it like this:

      ![Text Here](url of image)

And it should display the image... (example below:)
