What? Then how do addresses get assigned?

Via the client. Remember that the client talks to the server. No need for something like DHCP.

Scott is correct here. If you check a Windows system with ZT installed, and look at the ipv4 properties of the adapter, you will see that by default the IP address & DNS boxes are set to "static" but they are blank.

What a day... I think I just blew my audiologist's mind earlier this afternoon... Apparently I got 70% comprehension in my testing today... and my tone range (pitch) is roughly equivalent to what a normal person would hear.

She didn't expect me to do so well with it.... Honestly, I didn't either. I am blessed that it works so well!

So as I understand it, if you guess wrong too much it will destroy the data, so... why not dump the memory of the phone? There's got to be a way to start it up and dump the stack to something else and all the data so you can crack it at your leisure.

That's what I have always said... just make a full copy of absolutely everything.

This is standard practice for computer forensics... at least from what I was taught. Also make a copy of the original data and only work on the copy never the original.

This whole thing just sounds like it was a ploy to get a backdoor in iOS for government entities to use on a whim.

This is what I ultimately suspect.

Edit: Government's way of working: If we can't figure it out, make it illegal.

lol. I'm tinkering with my XenServer right now, trying to figure out how to work this thing with XO, I gotta say, it's nice and snappy.

It's amazing what moving a few lines of code around can do, lol. I was working on a PowerShell script that runs against AD, and since our AD is so large now (35k users!), the script was chewing up 2GB of ram every time it ran.

I moved 1 line of code up about 4 lines, and whammo! Script is tracking to run faster than it did before, and it's currently only using 100 megs of ram, lol.

Their Endoint Recovery Free would work for backups in this scenario as well. And with that one, you do get file-level restores.

Unfortunately, it'd have to be loaded per VM, and is Windows only at the moment (Linux version just hit beta).

@DustinB3403 said in Trying to use SS to restore a vDC:

So I'm trying to reset the local administrator account password used on a DC, because I can't get into DSRM without the password used when this DC was created. (no one here knows what was used).

MS's instructions say to boot into DSRM mode, open an elevated command prompt and reset the password.

Obviously this doesn't work if you can't log in. (like me)

Any help with how I can reset the local administrator password on a DC so I can get into DSRM so I can then restore the SS to this VM?

      Thanks in advance

There is no such thing as a local domain administrator password.
You either have a domain password or a local password.

I was under the impression, that when you DCPROMO a box, the local accounts are nuked. But that is only a vague recollection.

The local admin password becomes the password to get to the system when you boot it into DS Recovery mode.

All intelligible and reasonable use cases aside, I might try and work on this a little this weekend to see if I can get a host up and running on my home network. If I do I will try and document the process and put it out in the wild.

I think this is their documentation for getting started: https://github.com/zerotier/ZeroTierOne/tree/master/controller

Yeah, that is all there is really.

I set one up when it first came up on ML. I even had something registered to it.

So the configuration was as straitforward as it actually seems?! If so, awesome.

Getting the controller built was easy. Managing it is where the pain point was at. I had some scripts at one time to help with that. I'm not sure they're still around though.

It's always a balancing act of cheap, good, fast... pick 2.

Yes, I'm a cheapskate. I want what we need as cheap as possible...but it has to actually meet our needs...and that means, it ain't always going to be dirt cheap prices.

Sometimes we gotta fork out the money to get what we need... and that's okay too.
