@dafyre I hate how they throw the "gaming" label on so many PCs. You aren't kidding though. Pretty good specs on the MSI models.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@siringo Still haven't decided. Dual boot on a Mac would be nice but I can get a higher spec'd machine for less from what I've seen. The MacBook Pro we have is nice and fast. I like the keyboard feel as well. Excellent battery life too.
It is crazy that so many manufacturers are making their laptops not able to be upgraded. Soldered RAM/CPU is pretty common. RAM is the first upgrades people do.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@Dashrender The XPS are nice, but I doubt I would ever use the "tablet" function.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@JaredBusch Yes. Definitely USB-C. I have had such poor luck with USB docks that I didn't really consider one. It has been about 3 years since using one. My wife's MBP has all USB-C and it is convenient to be able to charge from either side.

RE: SIP Intercom for noisy environment ...
Very familiar with scale houses. I had planned on experimenting with an outdoor SIP intercom speaker for this exact purpose. I was going to mount it on a pole at the average height for the truck's driver-side window.
In the end, they just put up a sign letting the drivers know what CB channel to talk to the scale house on. It worked fine and was of course cheaper.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Time to start shopping for a new laptop. Definitely going with something new. Too many options to choose from. My wish list includes at least 16G ram and NVMe storage.

RE: The Skinny on Plex: How Are People Using It
We use ours for movies and music. All ripped from discs so far. Just looked at the dashboard - 7547 music tracks and 694 movies. No tuner card and no Plex Pass.
As of now we don't share with outside users. -
RE: What does your desk look like?
I just can't imagine using a RP4 for a desktop. Seems like you would spend too much time waiting for things to load and get frustrated. I have spent some time on the one my son has. No way I could do it. Not saying it isn't possible. Just not for me. Do you deploy RP4 for "power users"?
Also, does the micro SD wear out faster from continued read/writes?

RE: Virtualbox Issues
@DustinB3403 Somehow my brain skipped the sentence with VMWare Player....

RE: Need an intervention:
@popester Mine is used to it too. Probably will never change my ways.

@popester You are not alone. I'm the same way. Drives my wife crazy.

RE: Win 10 Pro to Fedora 32 NFS share
@notverypunny Have to try it. Was late when I started messing with it. Hopefully I will have some time this evening.

RE: Win 10 Pro to Fedora 32 NFS share
I looked for a 3rd party client but most of them had mixed reviews. May have to do more research.

RE: Win 10 Pro to Fedora 32 NFS share
@travisdh1 W10 Pro 2004. Plenty of RAM and CPU to go around.
-
RE: Win 10 Pro to Fedora 32 NFS share
@travisdh1 Hardwired to the switch. In the same room. It is just the default NFS from "Add Windows Features" menu. After it was enabled, I was able to see the share immediately.

RE: Zerotier on RDS servers?
@siringo Understood. I would check the firewall settings too like @Dashrender mentions. Had the same issue on some Hyper-V hosts. Even though it was RDP enabled in the SCONFIG menu, it still had to be manually opened via Powershell.
-
RE: Zerotier on RDS servers?
@siringo Try using the IP that Zerotier assigned to the server you want to connect to.

Win 10 Pro to Fedora 32 NFS share
I have a NFS share on F32 Server (minimal) and transfers from another F32 machine will saturate the network connection. Connecting to the same server via W 10 Pro with NFS enabled will not exceed ~5.5 MB/s. Fresh install on the Windows machine and all the bloatware removed. This is the first time I have ever used NFS from a Windows machine. Is this normal?

RE: Domain Trust, VPN, Remote workers
Can confirm this method works. Did the same thing at my last job. The field guys traveled all over the world and did not always have access to internet - especially when they were offshore. They still needed access to their laptops for reporting. Never had a issue with them not being able to log in.
