However - I have thought about a train... and how it could be done. Set it up similarly to a ship, different car(s) are for different tasks. But you are dependent on the tracks - and bridges... which means you are a target seen for a long way. No places to hide either.

Sort of, but it depends on other people to be able to out race you AND demolish major infrastructure to stop you. And even then you only ensure where you can't go, not where you can. Trains move fast and have lots of track choices. You'd have to have one heck of a strong system set up to be able to coordinate an attack on one.

Is it the conductors choice, or someone in an operation room somewhere?
I agree, trains would be rather difficult to stop with a large area to travel in. But compared to a ocean fairing boat (trains have a very tiny area to travel)

And with a large boat like a carrier, you get the capabilities of having helicopters, small transport boats and all of the facilities needed to stay at sea for months or years even if you can keep the boat stocked.

Trains can be derailed pretty easily. you don't need to just guard the train and it's cars, but the tracks it runs on.. There are videos of tracks washing out, a tornado derailing a trail, etc....
US Aircraft Carriers don't have the ability to deploy smaller boats IIRC. An amphibious assualt ship would be better.
The only vessels which can stay deployed for years are nuclear powered. All are limited by the ship stores of food. Water is run through the desalination plants...

Most IT people I've known would be dead, rarely ever do they think with logic. It's the only outcome of a thought process such as "I changed my grandma's video card, therefore I'm a computer expert now because she says I am." In other words, people who think they're smart, rarely ever are and will be the first to die because they think their decisions are informed and infallible. I can tell you having lived through an actual war myself, "smart" people tend to be those who move around a lot, know how to hide well, and don't take sides. I imagine a zombie situation wouldn't be that much different. Additionally because I did take sides in said war and had close calls, I can assure you I am not smart.
Additionally still being smart has no bearing on one's ability to properly dispose of human waste or find good drinking water. I learned how to do that in the military, I sure as hell didn't learn it in any of my Computer Science courses whilst I was studying for something completely unrelated I couldn't find a job in. On that thought, side note, most of the people on that Preppers show would die too, they're all really, really stupid, and the fact they'd go on the show is the #1 reason.
So, I don't really give much credence at all to this idea that IT people think logically and would be able to survive more. It's sort of like suggesting that IT people would automatically be better at football because there's logic and structure behind the rules and plays. This isn't just football or war, this is beyond the scope or horror of either, and yet they'll suddenly be kings? lol, no chance in hell.
Most IT people are incompetent morons who think too highly of themselves and think they are far more capable than they actually are. The people who are most likely to survive in a zombie apocalypse are the same who survive in regular wars, normal people with varying backgrounds who stay on the move, don't fight, and simply hide. This goes or IT people, doctors, any people to answer the OP.
If your plan is to fight, you're already dead.
(Side note: I think the only decent depiction "realistic" of zombies is in 28 Days Later, not that it's my favourite zombie movie at all, but let's be logical here, if a bullet to the head can kill something, other things like disease and starvation will too. Romero Zombies are effectively magic, and so it's fun to consider them, but if you want to plan this out for real it's a joke, it's like worrying about sea horses coming onto land and killing us. And people do really consider it to be real, I've seen some stupid preppers act like big babies arguing over it. I like that show because it's the only place you can see a grown man cry because a gun was too loud.)

Also because Romero Zombies are so stupid and slow, you'd have to be a moron to be caught by them in the first place (or severely disabled), I can't imagine them spreading that fast unless they fall into a reservoir and people catch it by drinking water or something.

Food is only an issue on an AC because they need the deck for other things. Turn that whole deck into a green house and you could feed a small city with that. Add fishing to the mix and you could have a pretty huge food supply going on.

I stopped watching Walking Dead after the second episode of the second season. I got tired of everyone except "bad guys" looking beautiful all the time, something that really bothers me about American TV. It's off putting because also like that show Revolution, it's been years since everything fell apart and they still look like they just came from a spa weekend? Give me a break. I'm not saying people on TV should be regular ugly people like East Enders, but if you used what they do now with say... Seinfeld, imagine if Elaine looked like <insert modern beautiful woman> it'd throw everything off.

I actually never ever saw the original episodes of "The Walking Dead".
I picked it up about halfway through the first season.

** Requires Fuel storage - which can be a hazard and liability, and difficult to relocate. -
Generating Power using Solar
** Requires space for panels.
** Has to be 'banked' for poor solar exposure days (clouds, darkness)
** Has to be converted to run AC devices
You can generate fuel to run a generator, but it is a process - needs time, resources, and space.
There are other ways of generating electricity, using steam power; either solar based or fuel based - fuel being petrol or biomass... again - needs space and generates some noise.
