My wife and I will be in London Wed July 13. We're staying downtown near the Excel Center.

That's not downtown, that's the arse end of London my friend 😛 Nobody likes the area around Excel. Make sure you head West into the heart of it.

Are you there for a conference?

I can pop over there I reckon.

Yes, there is a Star Wars convention called Celebration London that weekend.

Nice to see it taking place in a fan-themed location, in a galaxy far, far away 😛

This is actually about the worst possible place it could be. This event will cost me 10-20% more than LA did (not counting airfare). Damn London is just super expensive.

Only positive, the brexit might lower conversion costs a bit, so we might be closer to 5% more expensive.

                Sarcasm my dear @Dashrender 😉

At the rate that it is going, (see what I did there) you might easily be cheaper.

I don't think the conversion is going to be much lower, but who knows.. only two weeks to find out.

$1.36 is pretty epic as it is. That is SO cheap. Was $2.10 when I first went there.

However, 25 - 40% of all food in the UK is imported, so anything food related is shooting up in price to compensation so you won't feel the full benefits of the lowered valuation if you are looking at food items.

It was around $1.50 when I was there 3 years ago. So down to $1.36 won't be that noticeable, but it's something.

At least with my AmEx I won't get hit with conversion fees on my hotels, etc - but the cash exchange fees are sometimes brutal.

Having never used an ATM in Europe, beyond the ATM fees - are their typically currency conversion fees?

My currency fee from my bank is 1% for any conversion ATM or otherwise (so I pay 1% if I pay for a restaurant with the debit card, for example.) But the ATM fees are zero compared to normally seeing roughly 3% in the US. So in absolute terms, I consistently see 1% in fees in Europe and in relative terms I see a 2% negative fee.
