Too bad it is slightly hazy today. You can see downtown Rochester on a clear day from where he was standing in the first part.
THAT is slightly hazy?
View from Mt Tolmie in Victoria, BC to Mount Baker in Seattle, Wa - 78miles
Helps to have a good hill to stand on to demonstrate viewing distance

I always forget how flat Western NY is. We are in the Catskills here you can't see more then a few miles without a mountain in the way. We generally give direction by how many valleys away the place you want to go is.

Here the valleys run from the lake to PA and are very wide.

Still better than Iowa!

Growing up, I always thought WNY was the best place to live. When I moved away to NM at the age of 25, my young thoughts of the area were quickly confirmed...WNY is the best place in the world. Can't wait to move back home.
-
Thats why I stay here. I'm in Buffalo, but only 20 min away from cow country
-
@jt1001001 Grew up in North Tonawanda myself...while I don't really consider Rochester to be part of WNY, for our conversation here, it is.

I've lived a lot of places and I would say that WNY is the best, but definitely the best in the US. Except in winter. ugh.

Born in Rochester but grew up in Wyoming County, where I am sitting now. Only lived in Monroe for 100 days.

Looks...open.

Hopefully you get to explore it soon!

@scottalanmiller Currently in Amherst. Grew up in Kenmore, lived in Lockport and North Tonawanda before "rooting" where I am now. While I've left and "visited" other areas still always came back.

Not too far from me. I'm near Perry and Wyoming right now.

@scottalanmiller Was just there, Sis-in law was camping at Letchworth so we visited for 1/2 a day. Sad time as we found out later a couple hikers died when a family went off trail.

We were in the park yesterday. Video available in like five minutes.
