I'm not sure. I discovered a lot about the upgrade process just today. I'd love to have more input/doc from Citrix before the D-day, but you know, it's hard to be in the plans of a big corp
Here is the answer for the VDIs on the local SR.
During the upgrade process, the RPU wizard checks for VDIs on the local SR. If there are any virtual disks (VDIs)
present during the upgrade process, the wizard prompts you to move the VDI. You should move VDIs on the
local SR to a shared SR and then restart the upgrade process in order to continue with the new layout. If, for any
reason, the VDIs cannot be moved, or if there is insufficient space (less than 46GB) on the local SR, the upgrade
will proceed with the old partition layout and allocates 0.5GB of disk space from the dom0 partition to UEFI boot. -
Do any of you have recommendations for USB sticks to run the hypervisor on?

@scottalanmiller said when I asked that question (and I paraphrase) "whatever is cheapest at Walmart"
I ended up going with this:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Low-Profile-Drive-SDCZ33-032G-B35/dp/B00812F7O8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00Though it looks like I might have to bump that to 64GB if I am reading the install guide correctly.

@BRRABill I wonder if there is a USB 3.0 version of that...

My (brand new DELL servers) servers only have USB2, so it did not matter to me.
I am sure any reputable branded USB stick would work.

That is odd. I just got two R530's from @BradfromxByte and they have a USB 3.0 internal port.

Using XO VM replication between 2 XS 7 hosts, initial copy of a 61GB VM in 8 minutes:
This is on a classic GB link.
Clearly, previous bottlenecks weren't in XO.
-
That. Is. Fantastic!

I am upgrading right now.
How did the upgrade go?
Do you boot off USB? Did it upgrade your partitions? (AKA, did you have enough space?)
-
-
@BRRABill Perfectly. Yes, I have plenty of room

You can upgrade without using the new partitions, you just lose that added functionality of the larger partition.

Right.
I was just wondering how his upgrade went, and if he used the larger partitions.
I'm probably going to just upgrade it as is.

Auto-updating Windows drivers, the Direct Inspect API and gobs of GPU updates are the big winers, I think.
These features are not free.., you need the Enterprise edition.
Thought you folks said XS was free? -
@FATeknollogee The appliance free version is very limited. If you install from source, you get everything for free @DustinB3403 has a guide and a script from @scottalanmiller
-
@aaronstuder I think y'all are mixing up XS and XO!

Thought you folks said XS was free?XenServer - From Citrix - Free
XenOrchestra - From a third party - Limited free and paid for editions.

@Breffni-Potter
XenServer with the "enhanced" features like "Auto-updating Windows drivers, the Direct Inspect API & SMB support etc" is not free

XenServer is completely open source, there is nothing to be "locked away". Can you provide some evidence to the contrary?
