Cool things to do/See?
TUNES!!!!
If you take I70 through CO then you get to see some pretty country. You'll be driving right past @Grey and not far from me and @Nic.
As for tunes, I prefer books or talks to just music. It engages my brain and helps me stay awake.
-
If you took 80 instead of 70 you'd drive right past me in Omaha, Ne.
-
@Dashrender That might be doable....

We are musicians so music is ALWAYS a part of everything around here. A husband without a guitar or drum set to play for 2 weeks will be a antsy guy

We will be. I will let you all know and maybe we can have dinner or something

Take I76 out of Denver and it will take you on the northern route through Omaha. The only problem is the toll road across OH that makes it much more expensive if you don't go back south at some point.

Well we do need to stop at Scale Computing in Indianapolis so we will be dropping down not long after that.

A couple notes for road tripping from a former truck driver. Pilot stations have the best bathrooms (actual walls between stalls), and Petro stations are generally the largest, nicest, everything in one stop places. Also, Petro2 sucks.
And Sheetz has the best food. And Buck-ees is the most... um, ridiculous. But has great bathrooms.
I lived exclusively off Sheetz the summer of 08.

It's pretty much the best. My wife is from PA and we drive down there pretty much monthly. One of the first stops is the Sheetz in Clark Summit.

@coliver I fully stand by the claim that the breakfast biscuit with double meat and double cheese will cure literally any hangover. I've done EXTENSIVE field research.

My wife swears by their chicken tenders with hot sauce and ranch for a hangover.

Depends how you're getting to NC. If you go down 79 in PA then you will be going past me.
What part of 79? Transplanted Yinzer, here.
-
Stop in Asheville on your way out of NC for lunch - you won't be disappointed. A few of my favorites are:
-
Tupelo Honey (go to the one in South Asheville - they take reservations, there's usually not that long of a wait as compared to the one downtown, and it's just off of 1-40)
-
12 Bones Smokehouse - Amazing BBQ with locations in the River Art's District or Arden, which is just off of 1-40
-
Papa's & Beer - Delicious traditional Mexican joint
-
Salsa's - Fresh, Mexican & Carribean fusion restaurant - menu changes daily, and I've never had a bad meal there.
There's also a number of local breweries (Sierra Nevada, LAB, Highland), and a rocking music and art scene, as well as easy access for hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Travel safe!
