Big data breaches found at major email services

This isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. From the Holden Security release.
For the final step – comparing these unique credentials from this enormous batch to the records that we already have seen before. And, it’s a letdown. Only 0.45% is new, meaning that only 1 out of 200 credentials are ones we have never seen before. Is it disappointing? Of course, but more importantly, we know that most of the stolen data has already been identified and many companies and individuals are already secured.
It looks like this is just for the letter A. There are 272 Million unique and never before seen credential pairs. Sorry reading comprehension got the better of me.

is there a search engine to see who is in the list?

@Dashrender not that I know of

This is why I always use 2 Factor.
2FA is also my solution of choice for this garbage.

Actually I don't think it concerns most people. Most people could care less.

I agree. Does anyone know someone actually affected by these? I know of no one. Someone, somewhere is, but it is super minor. I have a new CC coming, just in case, from some breach I don't know about. Whoopty doo.

I'm trying to find the source of an article I read yesterday(?) that claimed that this was bogus and just a bunch of old and random data cobbled together.

That was directly from the security company. From what I read less than 2% of the data was unique.

I do not know anyone who is really concerned about most data breaches. People talk about it, but no one is concerned.
-
Half of my doctors have had fake tax returns files in several states on the East coast - they are definitely concerned.

I think that this was where I read it: https://www.grahamcluley.com/2016/05/hacker-selling-272-million-webmail-passwords-1-dont-panic/

From what breach did that happen?

We're talking information available through HIPPA regulated places..... where could you NOT get it if you wanted?

I didn't want to say it, but I was guessing that they had used the fax machines.

Sorry, this had to be posted somewhere relevant

We don't fax the doc's personal information much if at all. So if it was from a breach, not likely a recent one.
