Need a Good Bottle of Scotch

@thanksajdotcom If he likes Glenlivet he will like Glenfiddich too. I know in Texas, the 12yr Glenfiddich is $60 bottle... but you should be able to find a 15, 18, and 21yr bottle as well.
Texas is actually much more expensive than NY for that stuff, believe it or not. Weird, I know.

@scottalanmiller That doesnt surprise me at all with our bassackwards liquor laws

You obviously don't know NY liquor laws.
-
@scottalanmiller nope... the whole US has alot of stupid liquor laws
-
NY, SC and TX are the whackiest that I have encountered, myself.
-
The only scotch I've tried that I loved was Balvenie 12 Double Wood. It's not peated, so it doesn't taste like burnt mud (like most scotches). I would describe the flavor as much more like a high end rum or American whisky. They have many other non-peated options as well.

I'd recommend Crown Royal. It's a whiskey, but it's about $50 and almost everyone likes it.
I tend to drink very cheap liquor. $10-$20 bottles, but every once in awhile I splurge for Crown because I do love it. I just can't imagine spending over $50 for a bottle. It's liquor and in the end the goal is to get a buzz, drunk, or wasted.

Glenfiddich single malt is a good choice. My personal fav is Glenfiddich, balentines (a cheap but very smooth), and just recently tried jameson irish whiskey- also smooth. Used to have Jack Daniels but never really liked the smoky taste of it.
Has anyone tried blue label or chivas regal 12 years?

Quite a few whisky drinkers on ML then.
So............water? ice? mixer? or straight?
I'll often have an ice cube, but no water. And if it's cheap whisky and I'm in a bar, I might have ginger ale with it.

Any Gin drinkers? Can't stand the stuff but my brother loves it. I got him Bombay Sapphire last year as a gift and he really enjoyed it.

Love it. Believe it or not, low cost, California-made New Amsterdam is the best that I have ever had.

I'll have to pick up a bottle for him. Thanks.

@Carnival-Boy Neat is the only right way to drink a scotch
-
Myself it is either Macallen or Laphroaig, but see if this helps.

I'm going to have to save a copy of this...

I'm pretty big fan of Scotty Karate: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1471/28039/
The next time I brew a strong dark belgian I plan on grabbing a bottle of okay scotch and making hot scottchies with some of the wort; I've been told they are fantastic.
And if I'm not drinking an Ale I'm usually enjoying a gin and tonic. Hendrick's and Tanqueray are usually on standby at all times.

Best cheap scotch IMHO is Famous Grouse. It is mixed from the leftovers of several major labels.

Laphroaig makes you cry inside a bit.
Strange, it just makes my beard grow thicker
Laphroaig Quarter Cask, best bottle under $100

I don't claim to be any sort of expert- I haven't sampled too many varieties - but, of those I have sampled, Ardbeg Uigeadail is definitely my favourite (and it's less than $100).
