Datto Launches Datto Drive, built on ownCloud

Other than it being a commercially hosted ownCloud solution, does anything make it different or unique?
-
I bet Datto is really owncloud. From reading the cofounder's blog he made it clear that opensource was a mistake and letting the community run things had caused issues.
Datto is owncloud rebranded. We will see them offer hosted commercial solutions in the future.. At least that is my bet.

Are you aware that Datto has been around rebranding StorageCraft products (and adding stuff onto it, like hardware) for years? Datto is not new in any way. This is just a new product in their product line.

Datto Drive has been out in beta (to their partners) for some time now.

And what does that have to do with anything? Most products have a beta cycle.

In relation to the previous comment in which I felt @IRJ thought this was a very recent thing.

@scottalanmiller Datto is trying to provide a service for small and midsized businesses that they can afford. The CEO, Austin McChord, is quoted in the Press Release saying: “Anyone who’s paying hundreds or thousands of dollars every month for FSS will immediately see Datto Drive as a welcome alternative. Priced at just $10 per terabyte per month for an unlimited number of users in an organization, Datto Drive is just one of many ways we’re empowering our partners to help small businesses run more efficiently and cost effectively. Better yet, we’re going to give away the first one million instances for Datto Drive for the first year for free.”

They should update their website with $10/TB/mo. It kind of hints at that but doesn't say it clearly. I think that they will get better adoption very quickly if that is crystal clear right away.
-
I wonder what that transfer rate will be for that. $10/TB/month... that's pretty awesome pricing... I could backup my whole system to this as an offsite for $20/month. But if the transfer speeds aren't at least 50 Mb/s it wouldn't be worth it to me.

@BRRABill has been dealing with them a lot, even before he joined the community here.
When I worked in Connecticut in 2013, their corporate offices were literally right across the street from us. It was the building directly next door. We shared on street parking.

I'm actually a reseller for them, strangely enough.
Great company and product. Pricey, but a nice all-in-one solution. I've never had any issues with their stuff.
