Anybody tried OnlyOffice?
-
Sorry, @Jason. The information about "FREE for home/personal use" is indicated on the Desktop page - http://www.onlyoffice.com/apps.aspx
-
@Tati Welcome to the MangoLassi community, by the way!
-
Just as a followup to this. I created a VM of Win 7 and installed the desktop apps which are clearly labeled as "free for home":
After opening the app though, it immediately says I can't open or create local files without a license, and sends me to the purchase page. I see no options at all about using the free version. I don't know how to unlock it or where to get a free license?
Oh well, would have liked to try it.
-
So it's not free as I assumed with the huge "try now" button. ...
-
I just see no point to it when there is LibreOffice.

Their claim is perfect compatibility with MS Office. But unless that is true, then I agree, for local installs LibreOffice is free, active, has huge market share, available everywhere, etc.
The HTML5 based option, though, is pretty interesting.

Collaboration is coming to LibreOffice also. I for get where I read it, but I think it was a thread hear a year or two ago.

That's going to be awesome.

@scottalanmiller thank you!

@guyinpv, I have forwarded this problem to our QA departement, they will try to reproduce the problem. If I have understood correctly, the program didn't suggest you to choose: For home / For business. Is it right?
-
@DustinB3403, the Try Now option allows you to evaluate all ONLYOFFICE functionality in the cloud. The cloud solution has a 30-day trial period. But if you need a document management and online editors only, you can make use of ONLYOFFICE Personal that is absolutely free - https://personal.onlyoffice.com, moreover if you are a nonprofit organization or an educational institution, you can use the cloud version of ONLYOFFICE for free as well - http://www.onlyoffice.com/nonprofit-organizations.aspx.
To deploy the program on your own server, you can compile the source code / use the pre-built pachages - http://onlyoffice.org/ and it's free or you can make use of the Enterprise Edition solution, a virtual machine with ONLYOFFICE pre-installed - http://www.onlyoffice.com/download.aspx. The Enterprise Edition version gives the access to all ONLYOFFICE modules and tools and offers a set of tools to automate the office configuration and management (it has a 30-day free trial as well). -
@JaredBusch, First, ONLYOFFICE is a web-based office suite that offers a real-time collaboration (two modes - Strict and Fast (like Google Docs), chat and comments to interact. Second, ONLYOFFICE is not just office suite, the system is intergared with document and project management tools, CRM, mail client and server, calendar, community (forum, blog, bookmarks, wiki, etc.). ONLYOFFICE offers all the necessary productivity tools for teams of different size, so you can easily choose which ones you need and desable those you don't need at this time.
-
@Tati I could not tell from a quick look, what document formats does OnlyOffice support? I saw that MS Office was listed, what about the ODF?
-
@scottalanmiller, ONLYOFFICE supports all popular file formats, including OpenDocument formats. The full list for document formats - http://helpcenter.onlyoffice.com/ONLYOFFICE-Editors/ONLYOFFICE-Document-Editor/HelpfulHints/SupportedFormats.aspx, spreadsheets - http://helpcenter.onlyoffice.com/ONLYOFFICE-Editors/ONLYOFFICE-Spreadsheet-Editor/HelpfulHints/SupportedFormats.aspx, presentations - http://helpcenter.onlyoffice.com/ONLYOFFICE-Editors/ONLYOFFICE-Presentation-Editor/HelpfulHints/SupportedFormats.aspx

Thanks

OK I created another VM and tried again and was able to get free version.
Not sure what happened last time, I think the VM of Windows was doing updates and there were popups to restart the computer. I have a feeling I restarted it before OO finished configuring itself?Anyway, it works now, just playing around with it.
I agree that Libre is just fine, but I can't stand the awful interface and UI quirks.

Seems like they need to hire someone to redo their website so information is actually easy to find..
-
@guyinpv it's great. Thank you for letting me know.
-
@Jason, thank you for your suggestions. We will try to make the information about free desktop editors easier to find.
