The Robber is really the victim?

I've heard too many people say they would just shoot the person in the knee. That won't fly.
Why not?

Often because people can't aim for s**t

The robber could turn around and sue you. There was an incident where a guy was breaking into someone's house. He fell down their stairs and got hurt, but sued the owners and won because the stairs weren't up to code.

injustice is rampant

That's why you hear people say to empty the whole magazine. If you are too precise it looks bad, but firing 10-15 rounds at least looks like you genuinely feared for your life.
-
In NY it's a fire at will if someone is breaking into your home and you have even the slightest fear for harm to you or your family.
But make certain that they are inside the house when they die, with a knife or some other weapon near by....
Also don't have the body leading away towards the exit... that never ends well....

So, let him sue me. At least I don't have to live with the fact that I took a human life for the rest of my life.
People always say, "In X situation, I would do this" Truth is, in the situation, you never do what you think you would.

First I don't think you would have a steady enough hand to shoot and hit a knee on purpose in that scenario. Second, how do you know he doesn't have a gun? You shoot him in the knee and then he kills you.
-
you can aim for his belly and maybe hit his large intestine? Oh, that might kill him too.
-
I imagine in that situation you won't be thinking about what part of the body you are aiming at, all you will do is aim at the largest part of them (center mass)

I completely agree. I never said anything about taking a knee shot.
I just wouldn't aim for a head shot. You have a much greater chance of hitting them in the chest and the person has much better chances for survival (if you miss the heart that is...)
-
all this talk about killing makes me want to buy a gun
-
I find all this talking of killing people weird. In Europe, our houses contain little of value and burglars are generally young, desperate junkies after enough money for a fix. We don't have guns so we leave them to it and then replace everything under insurance. This seems a much simpler system to me
I wouldn't want to kill someone cos they're trying to steel my Xbox.
-
but my wife would leave me

If they reach for there waste band, or somewhere I can't see then all bets are off.
Once you start firing a gun, most people just take off, even with a gun.

I have 2 dogs, hopefully the barking is enough to scare them off. If not, I guess Ill be meeting my maker.

Stealing a government propaganda souvenir = 15 years of hard labor in North Korea.
I wonder what happens if you steal a car... lol

Less than that, I'm sure. In the US we are used to personal property being the high value. In some places government property is the higher value. I'd much rather get in trouble for stealing a far in NK than insurrection!

poor guy. i wonder if he was vacationing and looking for kicks on a friday night
