Medical Insurance in the US

all that said - it would be really nice to just have collision type insurance - catastrophic insurance. If you run into something medical that will cost more than say $10K. the insurance pays it.. done.. anything less... suck it up, life's not cheap!
The American system isn't setup to handle that tho. Have you ever actually looked at a hospital bill? Good luck deciphering everything on that little piece of insanity.
I think that would dissipate over time though. People will just buy insurance from companies that make it easy to read. Right now no one cares unless the bill gets screwed up and then you notice, but if people had to deal with it all the time I don't think they would put up with it.

That's a lot of what's wrong with the current system. Nobody pays attention to what they pay for, so (mostly) hospitals are no better than highway robber barons.

I think it's kind of designed that way. As long as you pay your premium every month why would you care? Kind of like how people don't pay attention to the taxes that are taken out because they employer has to deal with all of that. If you got all of the money from your paycheck and then had to physically pay the IRS yourself out of your pocket, I bet everyone's ideas of taxes would dramatically shift.

Please, don't get me started on that yet as well! 28% right off the top, grrr!

Might have to fork this thread ANOTHER time, then!

You both just had to say something. Taxes are to high!

Insurance companies and lawsuits are what broke US healthcare. It's sad that you can go to anywhere else in the world and get surgery for a fraction of the price (usually 10% or less). The whole medical system is broken and Obamacare isn't going to fix shit.
I am not quite sure how socialism (Obamacare is a form of it) can even fix the system. Insurance companies have really screwed everyone.

I love health care in England
Everyone pays National Insurance & Taxes, everyone gets health care.

I love healthcare in Japan for the same reason. I hate it here in the US.

Our current Government is trying to break up our health system though, they want to convert it to American style, pay to play but they are managing the current system into the ground so that their "new" alternative will look amazing to the masses.

Yup, a tried and true strategy.

Public opinion thankfully, is with our current health system. People have gotten more suspicious of Gov cuddling up to big businesses and when most people have had their lives saved by this health system and the hard working, underpaid people behind it, they are very supportive.
Whether that is enough to stop this Gov steam-rolling it anyway, who knows.

With the Brexit looming... you guys are screwed.

I can't see it happening. The only reason why this Gov wants to leave the EU is because of "Human Rights Laws" which Europe is forcing on the UK. Their big business buddies love Europe, so they are making a dance to appease those who want to leave but a lot of people don't want to go, it's the same racist ignorant bunch who want us to leave the EU because "immigrants"
-
But then again, Trump becoming President worries me more right now.

Not me....
Because I've been voting for full emigration all along. This is what I need to push my wife over the edge. She's been teetering for years. Sanders getting in means we feel a need to be in the US and be supportive. Trump winning is so dangerous for Americans abroad that is actually fearful of carrying a US passport as our main passport.

I like how Hollande was like "so... if you aren't in the EU, we don't have to hold back the immigrants at the border. Not saying we won't... just casually mentioning that we don't have to..."
