GreenShot Free OpenSource Screenshot Utility for Windows
-
@JaredBusch turned me on to GreenShot which is a free, open source screenshot tool for Windows users. One of the cool features is that it has direct integration into tools like Imgur, Flickr, DropBox and more. You can have it save, go to clipboard, go directly into MS Paint or whatever tool for editing, go directly to your hosted tool of choice and more. It integrates with the "Print Screen" button so that you can get screenshots in a wink. Cool tool.
If you are a chocolatey user, you can install and update as easily as this command:
choco install greenshot

I would love to give credit to whoever first told me about it, but it was a coupe of years ago and I do not recall who it was. I swear by this app though. It makes things so easy.
-
Nice tool, and free! Thanks guys.
-
Nice. Might try it out, I find I like the snipping tool pretty well though.
-
The new-ish Snipping tool was a huge improvement over the old style. But Greenshot goes even farther.
-
I use the Snipping Tool in a pinch.... if it is a Windows computer I own, it will have Greenshot on it.
-
Looks like a great tool, I'll give it a "shot"
-
I've been using GreenShot for a few years, great tool. Of the many features, I love the "obfuscate" one.
-
That's pretty nice I have downloaded it.
-
Only feature I wish it had was a zoom capability - otherwise, this has just about every feature I would want in a simple screenshot utility. That and the price is right for commercial use!
-
@Rob-Dunn Capture with Greenshot, Zoom in with Gimp. 8-)
-
Well, yes, but I want to zoom in with Greenshot so I can annotate and obfuscate my higher-res/detailed screenies!
-
@Rob-Dunn This would be nice, for sure!

Hadn't paid any attention to Choco before..
Might be my new favorite utility...

Choco is pretty awesome. Makes Windows one step closer to UNIX fifteen years ago

I use GreenShot every day. Love it. I especially like the capture last region as we have lectures/PowerPoints every day and I save a lot of slides.

And the account based imgur upload is broke
Anon uploads still work though. The developer knows about it and was hoping for a fast resolution, but it is not in the cards.
It seems it will be fixed, but may take a bit of time. -
Ninite has it as well.
-
Thanks for the post. I had heard of Greenshot, but was too lazy to go see what it was. Sometimes it's hard to muster the motivation to use Google...

Greenshot has been updated to address both the authenticated imgur issue and the lag on hitting the button.
