Now the question is.. is it time to leave Lastpass?
sigh!Is that really a question? I think we know the answer to that one. Maybe that was rhetorical?

LOL - it's only a real question because I'm a paying customer (of both currently). I'm looking to leave LMI to get the last 20 machines (I have 120 end points) that LMI really jacks the price up on.
I really like Lastpass. I am a paying customer there too, and as long as they don't jack those rates I don't mind staying... though I think the service is easily worth $20 a year to me and that's a nearly 100% increase from what I pay now.
-
So what is the solution. I've been using Lastpass since 2008... I think I'm going to go through that account this week and pull out all the accounts I know I use on a regular basis and put them in a KeePass database.... no matter what I do this is going to be a long process.

I'm Using KeePass + ownCloud to keep my database up to date on all of my machines.

I'm a paying customer as well (the mobile app is awesome) I'm concerned that this is going to change into a $5 a month service or more.

What do you do for mobile access?

You can do the same, Owncloud has mobile clients and there is a mobile version of KeePass, but it's just clunky compared to LastPass.

Ah I wasn't aware of mobile Keepass. The mobile version of ownCloud is fantastic (the more recent update was really nice)... so that could be doable for me.

Yeah that is my worry as well, but really I can't see that happening and people no leaving them. $5/month is what we pay for Office 365 business essentials, we pay a few more dollars a month for Netflix... both of these services we get a ton more value out of.
They might be able to go to $5/month for business, Heck it might already be there... but I don't think consumers will buy it.

The fact that you have to manage your own ownCloud is the hassle here. I suppose you could OneDrive or google drive.

Managing ownCloud is a breeze. I've been doing it for several years. Hosting it yourself is the issue I have right now. I know at some point in the future I am going to be in a situation that a decent internet connection just isn't available.

Exactly. You have to pay to host it. If you're a home user, that's pretty unreasonable request. As a techie, we could buy a $5/month DO VM, but then we are at $5/month. Granted we get the rest of what we store there, but I'm sure at $5 the storage is limited.

I could probably get away with the 20GB for most of my stuff..

Should work on Box, DropBox, OneDrive, etc. too.

For $10/mo you could have a quarter TB on Vultr!

We have one, that's where our ownCloud is. Costs almost nothing for tons of storage capacity.
At that cost you go to SATA spinning rust RAID 10 rather than the SSDs. But for something like ownCloud, not an issue.

You still have to pay for the compute portion? So you would be looking at ~$15/month?

Oh... I see, sorry I misunderstood your previous post.
