Should AJ Open Crazy AJ's?

If I had the capital I would. I've actually been been thinking about this a lot lately...

So I've decided to open Crazy A.J.'s. No, it won't be before MangoCon. It won't be this year, or probably even this decade. But every job carries with it one common frustration: knowing I can fix an issue and having my hands tied by the departmentalization of various teams (voice, networking, server, etc) and them all playing their favorite game of "pass-the-buck". I'm hands-on, and I want to be the one at the helm.
That being said, I'm neither in a position financially nor personally to make this successful. I have much more to learn before I'll be ready, and I'm both aware and okay with that. But I also know I'll get there someday, and when I do, I'm excited about the prospects.

I agree. I think I need the level of control over things that can only come from owning the company that you work for. That being said, I will still use NTG as my meta-MSP

So I'm going to do some research today on writing up a business plan, per the request of @scottalanmiller and start at least getting an idea of what it will take to get this thing going.

I did a mock business plan in 10th grade for an entrepreneurship class I took. My grandfathers on both sides of my family, as well as both my parents, have all been successful entrepreneurs, with my father being the most successful of them all. It's one torch I wouldn't mind carrying on.

Didn't your dad take over an existing business, rather than starting his own?

Business plan, and location scouting. For something like this you need to find a location that makes sense on its own, but also a place where no one else has figured out the same need.

Didn't your dad take over an existing business, rather than starting his own?
He's done both. He took over the company my grandfather started and that's the one that he's done best with, but he ran his own painting/drywall finishing company for a decade long before that, and more recently he started a car consignment company with one of his best friends, that is also doing very well.

That's from after my time. My dad hates that commercial, but since I have never had television since I was a kid, I've never seen that commercial.

I haven't had any television at all (meaning something that uses a tuner, of course I have Netflix and YouTube) since the 1990s and I've never had cable. I grew up in a cableless town. The cable ran in front of our house for my entire childhood but they refused to let people in my town access it.

Yep, my parents know him and met him by chance in Daytona not too long ago. He "retired" is what he told them.

He opened a dealership in Florida? Can't say I'm surprised...I saw him once when he held the door for me walking out of a Panera next door to a dealership he had just opened...years ago. My father used to work at the CPA office he used and he said he was pretty much an asshole...he'd walk in and demand to see the partner who handled his stuff right away, regardless of what he was doing. Can't say I'm really surprised...
