Trust online services?

Do you trust services like sealion.com? I used it on a test server before, I just don't know if it's good practice to trust these types of services.

Depends on what it's collecting and Who is behind the product. We use Dell Spotlight on SQL Enterprise which is a web based portal (along with a local interface too). for monitoring all your SQL servers.

In general I'd say if it's from a repeatable company, and you are paying for the service it's okay. If it's free then you know they are doing some kinda of data collection on you to make it worth their while and sell that data to ad companies. (I'm pretty sure spiceworks desktop has some data collection, personally I don't use it.)

All depends on who the provider is. The fact that it is "online" or "offline" doesn't really play it to whether I trust them.

With the ELK setup, are you able to age records out automatically, so that everything older than say.. 1 month automatically gets purged?

It's really free, not a trial. Two servers with a shorter than usual retention. That's still a full and quite usable product if you have need to look at just two servers. The three day retention is not a big deal, it's still very functional for monitoring and troubleshooting. A bit useless for long term capacity planning.

@thecreativeone91 You also get monitoring with it. Realtime, and a daily digest of every event (that crosses a threshold).

Do you consider all the ones that you pay for, short of the "Unlimited" top end one, to be trials as well? If not, what's the difference? They are all limited in similar ways to the top end one.

Looks a bit like CopperEgg. Nice service, small companies tend to balk at the cost, though.
