Greece Opts No New Proposal Today
-
As someone shopping for a mortgage and watching Canada's economy take a giant poop - bring on the Greece crash! Lower my mortgage rates
-
Great for us too, Greece is keeping the Euro low making it easier to live in Europe. Horrible for the Europeans, though, who are seeing their buying power eroding even further.
-
Start saving up, this will be the time to buy Greek property, not Canadian. Greek mansions will be pennies on the dollar. If Greece collapses, this will be the time to buy like mad there. None of the Greeks themselves will be able to afford anything once the local currency is put back in place.

I'm planning a trip to Euro next summer - I'm planning on buying my Euros soon. Not sure if I should wait for it to hit a 1:1 ratio or just do it now.

It's higher now than it was when I was there.
I would not recommend getting into Forex investing for your vacation. Just use ATMs like normal travelers.

@Dashrender I'm not a financial adviser or anything but I'd wait. I think we have yet to see the euro plummet; so far just it's warm up plunge.

It only came down $.01 to the dollar today. It was $1.07 when I was there. It is $1.10 right now. Not even super low by recent standards.

It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next few months
-
When was it $1.07? for a period in Feb and April? according the to chart Matt linked to.
Even so, $1.10 is light years ahead of where it was two years ago when I went. I think it wast trading $1.30:1euro

@Dashrender aw just come up to Canada friend! You'll get an effective 20% discount on everything instead of paying more for euros. We're also much more friendly and if you ask nicely we'll tell you where to find poutine and craft beer in herculean quantity.

I was getting $1.07 at the ATMs in Spain while I was there. So March - June. Not every time, it moves around.

Except the starting price on everything is so much more. Go ahead... what's the price of a Dell or HP server there? How much is an XBOX One? Everything is jacked up prices, the discount is misleading.

@scottalanmiller SHhhhhhh
Mostly you won't be buying durable goods which are the largest difference.

LOL - yeah, I've been to Canada. While some folks are nice, those in Montreal where some of the rudest other than France (Paris specifically).

Did you explain that you were an American? I've found Montreal to be very warm and welcoming as long as they knew you were not from Ontario.

Really? I've heard they hate anyone who doesn't speak French... oh well - We were only in the city for one day, I think 3 total meals before heading back to the states.

I've only heard it from people who failed to understand why they were upset and didn't realize that they needed to tell where they were from. Because there is a strong animosity between Montreal and Toronto and almost all English speaking people in Montreal are from Ontario.
Also, as with all foreign places, taking the time to say a few words in the local language goes a long way too.

This is definitely true.

Two men, one from Ontario and one from Quebec, were in a cave when they came across a magic lamp.
While they were fighting over whom the lamp belonged to, a genie popped out.
The genie said, βI shall grant each of you one wish and only one, so make it good.β
The Quebecois spoke first, βI want you to build a one hundred-foot high wall around the border of Quebec. This will ensure that the English culture does not corrode our superior heritage.β
The genie nodded, βdone,β he then turned to the Ontarian. βAnd your wish?β
βFill it with water.β -
